Excellent - My better half is the young girl in the yellow jumper on his left, she said they did loads of TV shows, including Basil Brush and the Golden Shot. The song was written by her neighbour, Herbie Flowers, who is more famous for the bass line in Lou Reed's walk on the wild side. Her son (Herbies godson), is now a musician himself...
I loved my grandads, my children love their grandad, and thier children love their grandad(my husband) oh where do the years go...but grandads will always be the best
I remember singing this song to my Grandad. I must've been all of 5 years of age at the time. I must confess it brought a tear to my eye when it i saw it again. R.I.P. Grandad, fond memories!!
Micheal McIntyre's dad produced this song!

When this song came out - I loved it because it forecast what was ahead of me and my young children.
Bloody hell - now I am there.
Clive Dunn was a superb actor.

wonderful comment, i'm there now, from being a punk and new romantic, to this, (it's all cool though)

Despite the sugary chorus, it's quite a sad song.
The character realises that he's at an age when all he look towards is death, so takes solace in his distant childhood memories.

he looks about 40, in those days grandparents were old, now they are usually in their late 20s, because their kids are up the duff by 11.
