The difference between Lincoln & Kennedy is that Lincoln was a racist and Kennedy wasn't!! To dismiss Lincoln as "racist" is too simplistic! True, he did view blacks as inferior to whites,but so did most people at the time. He did believe however that slavery was a moral evil & that the nation was being judged by God for this sin. His reason for advocating repatriaton to Africa was his conviction that the races couldn't live together. We must keep in mind that it was a very different era & while Lincoln in many ways was ahead of his time, he was also very much a product of it.

Lincoln "freed" slaves in the rebel States that he had no control over.

He did NOT free them in States(such as Maryland) that he did have control over.

In fact, U.S. Grant freed his slaves AFTER the Civil War was over.....................
