  • what a retar

  • Duct taped propane bottle? You taped the damn hose to the valve. Your a frickin moron. I'm wondering if your still alive to read this...

  • so do idiots

  • what!! thats kick ass im going to have to try that now

  • ok sweet vid 5*. i am thinking of making one and about how long would a tank of that size last?

  • Dude, sandals and lawnmowers don't mix. It's great that you have done this but I had to search for my neighbours toe years ago as he was on the way to the hospital with a severed toe while cutting the lawn in sandals. Good luck.

  • Real men mow barefoot.

  • I hate tecumsehs there soo fussey compared to briggs and startton

  • Never really had a problem with mine other than varnished gasoline in the carburetor bowl from sitting so many years (which was easy to take apart and clean out)

I had a lot more trouble getting a Briggs and Stratton to run on propane (kept backfiring out of the intake for some reason)

  • if this back fired couldent there potentialy be a problem or is the gas to air mixture in the pipes to gassy (couldent think of another way to put it) for it to explode??

  • That's Briggs & Stratton's Easy Spin Starting, the intake valve opens for a small moment toward the end of the compression stroke for easier starting. At high speeds it's so small it doesn't matter. My Tecumseh had the same issue with the decompression so I disabled it.

  • Actually once the engine gets up to rpm the compression release stops because of centrifugal force.

  • that's how Tecumseh's works.

On briggs & stratton it's always there, but at normal operating speed it's too quick to make any difference.

that's straight out of a B&S repair manual..

  • I do believe its the exhaust valve. Correct me if Im wrong, but thats how all *high performance* motors work.

  • I didn't pay 100% attention when i just recently had one apart, but I've been told it's the intake valve, and it makes sense because lots of old briggs motors make a weird sound out the carb.

Tecumseh uses the exhaust valve, but in a different manner.

  • I was just suggesting, that how all the motors I work on are set up (street bikes, motocross)

  • fussy wtf r u sayin they are run well all teh time even if u neglect them not to mention if sumthing breaks u can take it apart fast and easly without special tools unlike a brigs

  • man you have a lot of time on your hands

  • what, to put a hose from a bottle to the carby which probly took 5 min

  • Thanks for posting this video! I ran across it searching for propane conversion stuff. I have a crappy sears chipper with a Tecumseh engine. The carb died and started dumping fuel all over.

Tried to fix the carb. Decided to switch to propane. I had a spare automotive propane regulator, but the engine is too small. Tried a low pressure feed with a simple fuel valve to adjust the mix -- Works great! Thanks again!

  • are u retarded do u know how flamable propane is if there is any spark u will blow up

  • Krankiev is an ignoramus with no manners. He thinks abuse is the way to discuss things. Also, he clearly knows nothing about the way fuel air mixture actually works. I'm not going to advise him where he is wrong, but anyone who is an engineer like me will be laughing his head off at the monkey's errors. Carry on there Krankiev, give us all a laugh at your ignorance of the effects of burning fuel at less than optimum fuel air mixtures. We need more laughs - so please, do go on.

  • That's fake you faggot there's no way that you'd get that much throttle respone on propane. Also it shuts off before you turn the propane off completely, you are lying to the whole community of youtube.

  • It's obvious that mine is actually running on the propane bacause i got no gas tank and half my carb is missing this is fuckin gay.

  • Krankieve, IT IS operating on propane in this video. I was going to show that the gas tank was completely empty but the cap was on very tightly so I ended up not opening it. The Oil Fill/Dipstick tube was also attached to the fuel tank so I couldn't remove that part without oil spilling out.

  • I also did not want to permanently modify the carburetor in case my experiment turned out to not work or I end up using the propane torch valve for something else, I could easily switch back to gasoline operation but simply refilling the fuel tank. As for now, the lawnmower is back to gasoline operation since I'm now using the torch valve for a pulse jet.

  • and that still works with it being drilled out? I thought it wouldn't burn right because of too much gas...

  • Well I suppose it could be just the sound was a little off but you don't have a very strong argument. you never get that kind of throttle response from propane when the hose is just jammed in the intake like that... ny setup is much better, no chance of filling the aircleaner with gas either... do that, it backfires and... boom

  • if you pay attention you can hear the engine response as the propane valve is adjusted.

  • The sound is probably off a little because the engine dies before the gas is shut off. And whatever it's gay to just shove a hose in the air cleaner... if that backfires on startup it's gonna blow that air cleaner up.

  • For fixed-speed applications, you can go by sound as well as feel the exhaust temperature. If the mix is off, the exhaust will get louder and hotter. Very hot exhaust indicates that some of the combustion is happening outside the cylinder. Happy tuning!

  • i found for variable load conditions it works well to run rich with no load and then when you put a load on it it will lean out, but this worked very well for me as long as the load was not extreme. as the engine starts to loose speed, the throttle opens to let more air in. if the engine continues to loose speed because of a lean condition, the engine will richen up again due to less air being drawn in because of the lower speed of the engine.

  • Of course! That's elegant :-)

(Wish I had thought of that!)

  • it does work asshole. ive done it myself on a tnt100 engine

  • It would be possible to run the mower with too high RPMs right? So maybe listening to the engine speed would be a good idea.

    Thanks.

  • Yes, I accidentally overrevved mine a little bit, mostly the problem is tii much air, because too much fuel drowns out the engine.

  • use a temp gauge on the Exhaust to read the temps with the gas running in it then run it with the propane the hotter it gets the leaner its running!to lean and boom your mower is goneKinda the same way a car egt gauge will work

  • Running lean doesn't matter with propane as it is a gas, not a liquid. The engine will generally run hotter but it seems to take it well. Check out my propane mower. :) running lean with propane only makes it run crappy.

  • Also, you've probably by passed the engine speed governor and could easily overspeed the engine and possibly throw a rod.

  • hey retard only modification was a tube stuck in the carb because this dude's a computer nerd and doesn't know shit about mechanical stuff.

  • when running propane in this manner you do not have to bypass the governor, the governor will still open and close as usual. however this only changes the air and there is a small margin this will work well in before the fuel has to be adjusted.

  • The garage door was opened in this video so the exhaust will go outside. I also unhook the propane bottle when I'm not mowing the lawn.

The throttle still works. As for lean/rich adjustment; I have to listen to the engine to hear how it is running and adjust the fuel mixture using the blowtorch valve depending on load and throttle settings. I'm in the process of ordering a "demand" regulator so it should later control the fuel mixture automatically.

  • Hey douchebag, propane engines do not make the harmful gases that gasoline does. There isn't a whole lot to the fuel mixture, there is an extremely small range where the fuel mix can be off because it will run like crap. Also propane engines are MUCH cleaner than gasoline because they burn all of the fuel and also emit less harmful gases. and the way you kill the engine is to turn off the gas, so it can't leak while it's off. So, almost everything you said was wrong so you can go fuck yourself.

  • And if you refill the small bottles from a 20 pound tank it's cheaper than gasoline, so yeah that shows that just about all you sais was wrong.

  • nice set up

  • Hi the engine would burn cleaner and the oil would cleaner also. No carbon Build up in the cylinder head cool can you take a smell of the exhaust when it is runnign to see if it smells like propane thanks Robert

  • Thats cool. So this makes your lawn mower low emissions. Do you think it will consume more or less fuel compared to regular gas?

  • I haven't tested fuel consumption yet, it's been raining during the weekends and I'm waiting for it to dry before I mow the lawn.

  • if fuel efficiency is what you are looking for. the most efficient way to run propane is with a demand regulator. this will keep the mixture perfect regardless of any sudden load changes
