Get alot closer to the tinder, it actually helps a lot if you put ur hand with the striker on the ground holding the striker next to the tinder and then dragging the starter backwards keeping the striker still.
@halfstar1 The bastmatch rod is 1/2" thick and almost 3 inches total length. I replaced a generic blastmatch with an equivalent size goinggear rod. Very impressive.
Either put your steel right next to the tinder and strike, or put your striker next to your tinder and pull back on the steel. Helps to keep the sparks on the tinder.
Yeah dude i have one just like that, mabye a little different though. It only shoots a few sparks and they fly everywhere. Its SOOO hard to control, the sparks end up hitting me in the face sometimes. But it makes the best sparks ever. If i can mange to actually hit it, one concentrated spark will like a whole napkin.

@halfstar1 when i purchased it i got it for 25 or 30 dollars, but i believe the price went up alot and its now about 40-50 dollars.

it's easier if you hold the striker in place near the tinder and pull back on the rod.
