I'm surprised at how many people seem to like, even "adore" Riefenstahl. I won't argue that she pioneered filming techniques, but honestly examine her films. "The Triumph of the Will" blatantly portrays Hitler as a god-like figure with the masses of 'Aryan' Germans hysterically greeting him. She claims she only filmed 'history' as it happened, but there is extensive proof that these rallies were staged and filmed in multiple takes. By creating this propaganda, she too becomes a perpetrator.
She knew this was Propaganda . Obviously she could not foresee the evil consequences becuase she was an artist, first of all. She seems however very fanatic.
I've always argued that Hitler did not wield unlimited power, but had to deal with fanatics like Goebbels and Himmler - even as late as 1943! Leni's remarks re Hanna Reich (the pilot) confirms my contention.
I like her accent and the mixture between English and German, when she tries to find English words for German concepts. She should like Akira Kurosawa kept at low profile and not make herself the Eisenstein of the Third Realm! So that after the war she could keep making movies like Kurosawa, who did some propaganda stuff for the fascist government of his country as well, but not of that importance like Leni; who has now to deny her involvement in the propaganda machine.
She is flirting with the interviewer! Her work was undoubtedly brilliant, but it was for a serverly wrong purpose. The West has a fasination with Hitler and his regime because a: He was elected under the democrat process which the West seems to think is the Pinnacle of civilised society he has proven it's flaws. b: there is a sort of Intellectual indifference\denial of of how Art hailed as the Paradigm of Aesthetics was used for absolute evil intent.
hmm, I dont know. In the end-she did help hitler. She was an innovative person who made movies for a man with devastatingly drastic motives. She wasn't just an employee of hitlers, but a friend. Goebbels believed the two were having an affair. I think her movies were propagandist
Look, I don't know anymore what I have written 5 months ago and I can't read it, because it's not visible anymore. But to answer your question: No, I don't know her in person - she's finally dead b.t.w. And I wouldn't like to, cause I know already enough people with an incurably good consciousness. But I know the (body)-language of denial. It's an integrated part of German language. (I have nothing against Germans b.t.w, some of my best friends are Germans.)

It's not that he had jewish blood, you do not understand what she is conveying, her English was bad so people get confused, but she was not a jew.

"If you want something really, fanatically, you find all the strategies possible for this."
That's a fascinating quote, especially coming from the director of Tiefland.

That´s nonsense, especially the part with Goebbels who had a good overview to Hitler´s "affairs" who never had private moments with Riefenstahl.
