  • too bad they don't have the next scene... he does the same thing to an older woman at the bar. That one is more funny than this one in my opinion.

  • In the context of the movie, it was was obvious that Roger was really talking about himself.

  • His cold read of this woman was SPOT ON.

  • What a perfect delivery of facts - that bitch sort of knew she was part of that same old story at every instance but hadn't quite put it together; which roger did with a bow on it.

  • SCUZI ENGLISH PLS NO BAR ROAN SWABY DESKTOP

LORRAINE WALLINGTON LIBRARYENGLISH FOOTBALL SQUAD U S AIR FORCE

  • cold read + negs

    negs were too harsh

youre supose to make the girl laugh or smile not piss her off!!!

  • people should do this to girls like her more often, because of their looks they think they can behave and do what they like and by exposing their true character your actually putting their life into perspective which can help them be more honest with themselves

  • i wish i could be roger. he says what i think, in the way that i cannot say.

  • like he said, "what business is it of mine?" Why engage in a conversation only to end it in " I don't care." He is holding intellect over beauty when in reality they are practically the same. DAMN this is irritating!!!!!

  • what a baws

  • You know it's funny i bought this movie and i've had it for 5 years and i watched the first scene and my first reaction was "wow what a fucking asshole this is the main character" *eject* Then i watch it five years later have the same reaction as i did but had the patience to watch the rest of the movie and when it was all said and done i said to myself..why didn't i watch this movie fiver years ago lol

  • if you saw the movie, his (apparently) accurate read of this woman at the bar was actually also the arc that he followed up to that point in his life...

  • That's an insightful point-never noticed that before. He clearly has the seduction skills to bed a lot of women if he chose, making his fixation with the boss/mother figure less than accidental and disturbingly oedipal.

  • Anyone into lacanian psychoanalsis? Roger is totally describing the histeric structure

  • :lol What if she was the boss? And the guy

    was her brother? Oooops......

  • alientype: I am not attacking you. What you may miss is this - he does not hate women. We Americans put women on pedestals yet they still feel unappreciated? A bit of an ironic situation. Try dating some European women. Go spend some time abroad. There is no BS there. If they like you, they take you home, drink the nite away and you go at it like bunnies. Universally it boils down to communication. With the right approach men can have it all, from any woman. Sad he breaksdown at the end.GoodLuck

  • @BeachTravels

thats only because you're a foreigner

and thats hot for some women

if your native, it's EXACTLY the same in europe, because its practically the same culture

  • @barjtom Sorry it took so long to reply.. hadn't noticed til just now.. WDYM by "that's hot for some women"? I didn't follow. But I'm an American but I've lived in South America, Norway, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and traveled thru out the EU, eastern Europe, some parts of the Middle East... I was just commenting that sometimes on more levels than most realize, we are all universally the same. This main character comes off as an Ahole but in the end, I just see him break down bcs he's fullof it.

  • He's an asshole? I don't think so.. I think that we should stop putting women on pedestal all the fucking time... If a woman has decent looks she pretty much has any guy by their balls.. not many guys ever care if she has a personality.. well wtf is a personality for a good looking woman anyway. Women make sure they always have choice, men have to fight though their bullshit in order to get anything.

  • agreed...there are way too many chump guys that shower girls with attention simply bc they are beautiful....i mean, i can't lie....back in the day....i was pretty much helpless around pretty girls....but after awhile...i realized that, often times, the prettiest girls are the most self absorbed and only care about gratifying their own ego w/o much concern for a dude's happiness....and that is bc they have been put on too high of a pedestal

  • The most beautiful women are often the most insecure.. They think they can tool any guy and yes they can because thats the society we live in. So to those few men outhere that actually are interested in giving these women reality checks, you are the ones that will get them.

  • true...beautiful women cannot handle rejection at all! only bad thing i have to say about roger is that he kind of went a little bit too far and ended up seeming too pompous....but his game def. beats the game of fools that get drunk and say some shit like "hiii beautiful...you're sooo pretty"

p.s. i missed part of the movie....what did he say/do to those two chicks he met at the bar and went to the park to drink wine with...i mean, what did he say that made them leave?

  • Disagree, pretty women are about the same. They can have high self esteem and low self esteem. The idea that pretty women are inevitably going to become complete bitches is a falacy. She's just as insecure as you are. The most beautiful girl I have met was terrified of plenty of things, an incredibly insecure girl.

The idea they are on a pedestal comes from them getting approached more and as a result having to reject more people. It's nothing to do with their ego, just statistics. :)

  • I'm thinking of purchasing this film for my 16yr old nephew.

.... my older sis may have a canniption fit. Maybe I'll wait til he's 17.

  • Yeah get him the movie asap and have him watch it atleast two times lol.

  • I was 16 when Ive seen this, didnt understand all of it, but definetely have him watch this.

  • @alientype

So she deserves to be treated like shit because she said, "Sorry, I'm with some people"? Did you watch the movie? There's a reason the guy's lonely and bitter.

  • @sedeyus or maybe it's because of the fact that everyone around him are complete idiots that don't know jack shit about the world. It isn't his fault that he is intellectually greater than everyone else. I feel the exact way this guy feels sometimes.

  • @EpiDemic117

Kind of reminds me of what Hannibal Lecter says to Clarice Starling: 'Being smart spoils a lot of things, doesn't it? And taste isn't kind.'

  • @alientype i agree. that's why, I like to test her character and be a little rude to see how she responds.

  • I been going back to this scene for some time, i will watch this again. Absolute fucking amazing movie..

  • great film...funny how this scene reflects Roger's past relationship with his father yet foreshadows the "heartbreaking predictability" of his company affair.

  • Brilliant acting from Campbell Scott--how could he not be talented with Colleen Dewhurst for a mom and George C. Scott for a Dad. What a voice. Sigh.

  • The best cold reading I`ve ever heard!

  • "what do you do when your not reducing the world?" that is admission that everything he said is a fact. Then she asks, "what's the big revelation?" he says, "Why should I tell you?" classic smartass. This was a good film because it speaks the truth about some women. And brings to light that the truth sometimes comes from some men which is something they fear and makes them vulnerable.

  • Great movie , a Must See

  • You knew he had her when she paused and said, "...good story"

That's game, too bad the character is TOO bitter.

  • fuck man I gave u thumbs down by an accident... You got this right tho lol gj .. and sry lol

  • Let's have a talk...

  • Great film! What he tells the next woman at the bar is even funnier!

  • Did people think Roger was an asshole when they watched the film? I didn't think so. That probably says more about me...

  • The best asshole character in modern indie cinema--sounds glib but bitter substance makes this comedy acidic and sharp. Good screenwriting.

  • This man is a master. A true master. What a Badass scene.

  • HAHA. Roger's such an asshole! Great film

  • That's great!!! I love this movie and I phuckin' weep for anyone who hasn't seen this movie.
