and if you push a little bit more your search... Muay Boran is in fact from Thailand, but a territory that used to be owned by Cambodia. In fact, it is called Badai Serei, and it was under Khmer domination. Badai Seri was just 1 from many things the soldiers had to train on.
Muay Thai is hardly "cheapened", otherwise it wouldn't be as effective as it is (knockouts in full contact matches are impossible to refute). It might be more specialized and concentrate on a more limited skill set, but to trash one in order to deify the other is silly.

Muay Thai is hardly "cheapened", otherwise it wouldn't be as effective as it is (knockouts in full contact matches are impossible to refute). It might be more specialized and concentrate on a more limited skill set, but to trash one in order to deify the other is silly.

It are maybe stuntman but Tony hardly holds back on his punches, its a different movie culture there then for instance french fight movies.Estetic effect is more important then the props health for sure.

of course this is staged.. its an exhibition of the talent in his mixed martial arts moves. it is still very impressive that he can flip in the air and kick while in the air and land it perfectly. Props to this guy-- he is very talented.

And falling over backwards when he does ridiculously unbalanced windmill knees to the chest which looks as if it packs as much power as a 7 year old's front kick.
Yeah, it's totally real. So f'n real that he never, ever needs to back it up against world class fighters on the biggest stage in the world.

As far as Mr. Jaa, perhaps he can fight in real life. However, for the record, he has no amateur or professional fights that I can find, he has no ranking in any martial arts organization or league and even his Muay Thai and TKD training has been all informal.
He's a movie star, NOT A FIGHTER. Huge difference and while I respect Mr. Jaa's acrobatics, his fans need to be more realistic.

Yeah, it looks like we have come to a mutual agreement in that he had never been in a real sanctioned fight, and his training has been informal. However, I still believe that he could fight in real life if he needed to.

@ePakamatches Oh, much agreed! Tony Jaa could fight much better than most of us, much in the same way that Jet Li could fight much better than most of us. However, given the choice, I'd put my money on just about any decently ranked Muay Thai fighter over Jaa in the ring.
My point is that the tipping point between Tony Jaa and some random street punk with an attitude is a lot closer to being in the punk's favor than Mr. Jaa's fans realize.

all the ppl in the muvies being kick n punch by him. have protection. n its a real fight. they want to fight him n take his place for making ongbak. thats why it look so real. cuz it is. but theve been warned wearing protection n tony agreed. even thought the fight is not fair. but tony is dangerous........hahaha.

Hey jackassroger, These moves are just to promote his movies. The real selfdefense of Muay Boran is much more realistic. The UFC is great, but you can't say Tony sucks... He's incredible.
