@dennismrls The thing is that VS ending is a hopeful ending, it fades to white... with ALO is a depressing ending it fades to black, both are really good and you'll likely choose one base on your preferences (happy endings or sad endings)

"Abre los ojos" is deep and Shocking, and makes you think about the hypocrisy in the REAL LIFE. REAL LIFE most often is not pretty and happy. Vanilla Sky loses the essence of the original film. And the Spanish actors in this movie are better than in the REMAKE. This is REAL SPANISH LIFE OF THE NINETIES. If you dont understand the Spanish idiosyncrasy, perhaps didn´t understand the film.

I think VS and ALO are both great films, ALO is more true to he story and VS is more glossy kind of like the whole film is a coma fantasy inspired by ALO or is that just me? Love this song BTW.

I've never seen the original, but It's almost shocking to see how many scenes in Vanilla Sky were identical copies of the original Spanish film. The lack of creativity in the American version now seems disappointing.

the spanish version was better becuase it was real... he was an egocentric guy (since he is rich) who thought he had everything..in the american version it had a lot of discrepancies and was too korny at times especially at the end, eventhou it was a good film..

@therealdjcammONUTUBE I liked Vanilla Sky more too, but then again I only speak English (well, American, which is similar) and "popular culture" is relative to the culture one finds themselves in. There are plenty of people on the planet for whom Abre Los Ojos *is* popular culture.

When I saw ALO after I saw VS, I felt like something was missing from some of the scenes. Rewatching VS, it was clear what was missing: the music. It just wasn't the same without Sigur Rós, Freur, and Radiohead.

artisticamente "abre los ojos" es impecablemente creíble y profunda. Vanilla sky es estéticamente impecable pero carece de alma y profundidad.

A mi me gustan ambas, creo que simplemente son dos formas distintas de contar una misma historia, la una por un lado tiene un tono lúgubre, trágico y realista, mientras que la otra consta de colores y tonalidades que dan ese aire onírico y un tanto "rosa" que invade su totalidad, en Vanilla Sky se hace una lectura literalmente surrealista de las temáticas crudamente tratadas en "Abre los ojos", aunque eso si, la escena de la discoteca en "Abre los ojos" es insuperable
