I may be reading into this too much but my reaction to Bob's "not now" was that it was something about the bad medical treatments available for stroke victims in the fifties. (Leading to a lot of celebrity deaths.)

@HisEmptyHouse I assumed that was just a euphemism for not 'having a stroke', as in 'now is not the time to stroke your penis' or to 'have a stroke' as opposed to the more obvious meaning of the terrible medical condition.

I'm pretty sure it's from when Mark Lemarr was a team leader on Shooting Stars and Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves were the hosts and they used to constantly make fun of Mark as he looked like he was from the fifties. It's hilarious, they used to do it in most episode. There's loads of videos on youtube of it.
