  • my god

  • Ah, stochelo is there lol - why leave it so late as to bring him into shot?

  • Stocholo takes the third solo after Birii

  • These are the masters !! ^^

  • Angelo Debarre, Stochelo Rosenberg and Bireli Lagrene. The top three best living gypsy guitarists(in no particular order of skill or preference). Dream team!

  • Holy crap, it's gonna take a while until I get to that level of chord substitution ability. The soloing is great (as always with jazz manouche), but the comping is ridiculous.

  • I can't believe Bireli Lagrene didn't get on the title of this video.

  • I love Angelo DeBarre

  • Angello Debarre, Birelli Lagrene et Stochelo Rosenberg

  • Comment removed

  • 2.12

  • Bireli killed this guys :) Angelo bravo that was truely a pro play when his string PoPt...Bravo only Gipsy musicuans can play like this!

  • bravissimo oleee

  • It sounds good.

  • Love the large intervals at 1.58.

  • "TheDuree18" who is saying "Better than Django" ahahaha :D

Come on! I mean even if you take all the actual gispy players, and put them together, they are nowhere near Django... Django is GOD! That's simple isn't it?

I cry each time I hear Django and I don't when I hear them even if I love them for more than 10 years.

  • Birelli Lagrene and Angelo debarre

  • AND Stochelo.....

  • ...and Bireli!!

  • You just can´t resist putting out stupid comments heh? OK, it´s humor allright.

  • @Phill6KOA6 Fuck you

  • wow, he break one string off the guitar at minute 4:01, and continue at the final

  • jaja, that "Fat Jew" is called Bireli Lagrene, and he's the best gipsy guitar player after Django Reinhardt.

  • He is the best guitar player...PERIOD...after Django :)

  • I agree that he has picked up on the gypsy technical trail but Django was not the best guitarist of his time. He was possibly the most prolific improvising guitarist but he was not a "jazz" player. He performed in a swing style with a French aroma and the passion of the gypsy musicians. He and his music was inviting and exciting. Django did it all with style.

  • @oldpython Sorry - might I know, who was the best guitarist of Django's times?

  • @unwrought I am sure that I can not know who the great guitarists of his time were because I do not know how far back they go before him. D'jango was the most viewed publically due to the disability to his hand. If I understand your question correctly, I believe he was one of the most gifted qypsy jazz muscians and certainly the most prolific. But technique is not a measure of talent. The biggest muscles are not always the strongest. Bireli and others copy the D'jango style.

  • @oldpython Of course, you are right. Yet Django is the best example, what a real talent or more precisely the real genius means: not only the "muscles" but at the first place the soul. Django always plays music, being aware of its spirit, always lets the melody flow. He never plays just superfast licks over the harmony. That's the difference between milestones and other stones whatever kind they are.

  • beytter than django

  • Is not Dangelo Is Angelo ^^

  • I THINK THE "D" IS FOR DJANGO :D

  • @VIKTORMENDOZA Okaii LoLz !

  • Le chitarre ringraziano di essere nelle loro mani, maestri!

  • Excellent !!!

  • When you play as much as I did over the years, you dont have time to go for a run!

  • hey angelo aint you the guitar player from chicago

  • Angelo breaks a string at 4:00 and doesn't miss a beat.

  • Thanks for pointing it out, I would've missed it otherwise. That was cool! Very skillful.

  • Wow!! Imagine having Birelli Lagrene backing you up on rhythm guitar!!

LOL Bet that don't happen very often.

  • It has been wrong for two years now - It should be Angelo and not Dangelo.

  • he also forgot bireli lagrene

  • very unlucky whith hie string !!

  • u cant compare them tommy has another style and he is the killer in his way

sure i think the gypsy tequnice is much heavier to play but tommy is a god in playin guitar so shut the fuck up

and do it better than him

  • Sadly I agree with vinno. Tommy is a GOOD guitar player, he plays some VERY beautiful stuff. But he is not even close to being as good as these guys, i mean, he rolls with Joscho and nobody else. If you dont play with Bireli, stochelo, angelo, jimmy or andreas, you cannot call yourself great. Call yourself good, not great. Tommy is good.

  • Tommy's not as good a GYPSY JAZZ player as these guys , but he plays fingerstyle better than these guys. You have to choose a style to focus on.

Tommy is a great fingerstyle and pop player. These guys are probably "good" fingerstyle players, I've never heard them play fingerstlye, except use alternate harmonics sometimes. You really can't compare.

  • I agree. I enjoy tommys music, as well as all the gypsy jazz artists. I just wish Tommy and Joscho would stop playing with each other because it is making them suck more and more :[ The music from a few years ago and back are much nicer than today. Maybe their is a connection :D

  • Guitar gusto!

  • u are a fool!

  • ohh the is also stochelo there...:D

  • the second guy is bireli lagrene not stochelo rosenberg

  • yes it is !

  • debarre, after bireli(in white) and third is stochelo rosenberg( in black)

  • @StouGr Wait, Stochelo takes the third solo!

  • lol

    dudes string popped XD

but he kept on playing! thats hardcore

that ending sweep was pretty sick

shit the whole thing was fucking amazing! i give it a 10/5

  • I think Lagrene goes too much into the freejazz - fusion and loses the grip of the audienc, while Debarre sticks to his roots as a gipsy. What you ?

  • LucyPanda, the title missed Bireli Lagrene. But you alrealdy know that. Thanks for posting ALL 3 are Master Players, I bet each one can play as well with one string only. Great Job Dangelo in keeping the flow. LOVE the interaction.

  • Fantastic!

  • 3:59 ~ 4:01

    damn!

  • I think you'd be pretty hard-pressed to call Angelo Debarre the "best gypsy jazzer."

  • you tube people we are seeing two of the most gifted players in the world in this genre . . peace . . . . .

  • 3! 'cause Bireli is there too!

  • Super Arrangement

    Lortzg

  • wow his guitarstring popped at the end but that didnt stop him :) hardcore! bloody awesome swingmusic!

  • So beautiful ! Thank you.

  • ein schöes video

  • Can't wipe that smile off my face while listening. Superb music.

  • interesting. first Angelo plays and his choice of notes is supurb, always perfect in the key, then Bireli plays, and he sounds a little bit "out" and then Stochelo plays and is much better with creative rhythmic ideas. all 3 are gods.

  • bireli mops the floor with these guys my friend. he,s not a bit out in this song, he plays this solo perfect. your right though, all three are gods.

  • ouch, moping the floor is a little harsh, don't you think?

depending on a personal taste every one of them could be the best living gypsy jazzer.

  • i must admit, moping the floor was a bit much but just wanted to express my passion in bireli. ha ha.

  • Debarre plays the standard gypsy solo (not an insult by any means). Bireli is Bireli, with incredible technique, mimicking some of Debarre's licks. Stochelo plays totally away of his own style. As someone else posted, he uses the rhythm to pump, and gives the music plenty of "breathing room".

What makes this video so great (besides the obvious godlike talent) is the variety of styles on exhibit here. I love this video.

  • Godlike talent belongs to Bireli Lagrene.

  • AMAZING!!! Thanks for posting.

  • love it!

True musicians, kept on playing even after a string went, nothing was going to stop that flow!

  • Absolutely Incredible! One sensible answer this to question please...? Why do the masses listen to so much boringly simple crap out there when we have great guitar players like this? Is anyone thinking the same thing I am?

  • cos the masses are stoopid. Most people wouldn't want to know about these guys. It is a shame, but I try to appreciate radio bubble-gum pop as much as death metal, gypsy jazz, or whatever music. There is beauty and something good in all music, even if we don't like it at first.

    These guys own!!!!

  • Agree with Alexio... this gives me as much pleasure as opera, flamenco, jazz... but at the end of the day you have to learn to open your ears and actually listen. You don't have to LOVE all kinds of music, but accept and become more open to all.

  • Sometimes Bireli is out of bounds in his chorus because he privileges the virtuosity. I think that the challenge is not virtuosity but yes the musicality. And this is what Angelo brings to us.

  • Agreed, best version of the song I ever heard!

  • hi the song is called "There is no greater love by stochelo of curse" make it swing =)

  • "I can't give you anything but love"

  • the song is: there will never be another you

  • Angelo not DANGELO noob lol

  • that Lagrene's an absolute MONSTER on rhythm. and as for the sheer volume of these guitars, it seems to me, as a player, that these guys completely POUND on these guitars.

i'm not big on stereotypes or aspersions, but i'd also heard that Django would trash a very high quality guitar in a matter of months with his "heavy" hands. and it seems that these cats don't have any problem beating their axes into submission, either.

true masters, i watch 'em everyday.

  • I dont think Django ever "trashed" a guitar...

Furthermore, he kept and used exclusively his last and most famous one (the Selmer #503) for years... I think the guitar would still sound great today if someone played it :) These guys dont break instrument, they aare not rockers uh uh uh... they sell them, often :)

  • i wasn't speaking literally of "trashing" guitars. i used to play often in a bluegrass band. i would have to have frets replaced every few months, repairs made to the pick guard and damaged top, and even two fret boards replaced over a period of just a couple of years due to scalloping. and, furthermore, these guys are way beyond nearly everyone in volume and attack. it's right before your eyes, man.

    THESE GUYS PLAY HARD!

    that's all i meant, boss.

  • ... Well, ok... silly me for reading "trash" and understanding "trash". But hey, changing the frets every few months isnt normal, man... I hoestly think the used guitars you find for sale, like old Selmers, Busato, Favino etc, have not all had this done even once. Often it says so when they are for sale.... and for most of them as there is no pickguard, the place of the pickguard is VERY used, but still solid. And yes, they play hard :)

  • no kidding? they really haven't had frets done? wow. i've never had the pleasure of even holding one of those guitars. i guess the difference may be in the type of strings, huh? i have a Martin D28, 1965, and the frets have been done probably 15-20 times. i also use very thick strings, not recommended by Martin, to get a big sound. there is no tension bar in my guitar so the neck has had to be reset a couple of times, too.

tell me, what type and size strings are used on these things?

  • they use silver coated, copper wound strings. guage is usually in the 10's or 11's for higher tension. they use heavy guage plectrums as well to give them that attack.

  • Hello Kennytheworm. 3 years ago Angelo told me he used .012 gauge sets on his guitar. Cheers.

  • this is real good gypsy jazz played by gypsy´s the best musicains ever !

  • hello ! great video ! please tell me the name of the music

  • The name of the song is 'There will never be another you'!

  • This music is realy amazing,it is incredible that they can get this sort of class whith just one kind of instrument.

  • All three of them mesh really well together; They are as tight as that little black dress you break out for a dinner party. I love both Debarre's and Stochelo's choice of melodic lines and tone, and Bireli's rhythmic and harmonic sense. Truely amazing players.

  • very good music

  • This video might be the best jazz i've ever witnessed in my life. Either that or the Billie Holiday "Fine and Mellow" video from 1957. It's close! These guys are just....indescribable!

  • This playing is so awesome, I can only dream of playing like that!

  • Go Angelo ! your realy amazing !!

i wonder if those guys knows about bluegrass ?

they would have fun with that ! ...

im a bluegrass player but i recetly bouth myself a Gitane d-500 guitar ..and now learning this stuff..

i believe theres nothing better than gypsy jazz music ....wow ....

  • DeBarre seems to have a nicer guitar tone than the rest - is that his technique or his guitar model?

  • Could be both. Or just a bad mix by the sound engineer of the other 2. Because of the sheer acoustic output of this guitars a lot of engineers have problems recording them. Selmers type guitars are a lot louder than other makes/models. Thus clipping is always lurking around te corner, causing a poor/distorded sound.

  • Debarre really kept his composure when he broke a string at 4:00. Bireli took over and they didn't miss a beat. truly great musicianship.

  • debare definatley outdid rosenberg and bireli on this one his playing is flawless to the rythm and hes the cleanest all three were superb however, guitar playing at its finest =)

  • yes you are right ! altho they are all great players ...but Angelo is a real genius ...incredible ...hes definatly my idole ..

...go see Andreas oberg also ...hes wild ...lol

  • Phenomenal! I like Stochelo Rosenberg the best, he lets the music "breathe"; his play is most interesting. Bireli at the high frets simply isn't human And hadn't heard of Debarre before this but he is fantastic!

  • This is great music!
