@SynQ The book doesn't elaborate into his slaves that much or too much about Mount Vernon except when he was able to take a break. I'm not saying he didn't do harsh things but he did some great things that many people of his stature didn't even care some of them went as far as to claim blacks were inferior and didn't have intelligence to understand what freedom was.

The south didn't consider the blacks to be people, yet wanted to count them as part of their population so the south could have more representitives in congress. The north called them out on that. They eventually agreed on black people counting as 3/5 of a man. Keep in mind that their where quite a few white folks that felt that blacks should be free.
Check your history a bit closer. It was the northern states that opposed black men being counted as complete men. They only wanted a black man to count as 3/5 of a man so their votes wouldn't count as much. There were far more black people in the south and a full vote would have given southern states greater voting power.

Actually Reggie, John Adams never had slaves, Franklin only had slaves when he was young (he also founded an anti slavery society), and Paine never had slaves and founded an anti slavery society as well. Washington still performed a noble action for the time.

Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, William Harrison, John Tyler, James Polk, Zachary Taylor, Andrew Johnson, Ulyssess Grant. All these men ruled the country waiving the Constitution and Bill of Rights around while subjecting blacks to cruel torture and terrorism. Some owned slaves before they took office most owned slaves after but regardless none of them used their power as president to stop this inhumane treatment against an entire race.

well then again, things like freedom of speech, a computer, an education (maybe not), a job (it is questionable), on demand food, water and governmental stability to ensure you have these things is just as bad. you know nothing about suffering, and you know nothing about what you speak of regarding "history" -don't try to make yourself out to be besieged by this imaginary foe, it doesn't work with intelligent people regardless of race.
