I can' get the eSATA expansion to work for some reason. Whenever i plug in the enclosure to it and power it on nothing happens. Should I get the autoplay window or something?
As for a fan being installed, these enclosures are small spaces unlike the larger area these hdd's like to normaly be,( inside the pc case), which also has a fan and ventlating system.
If the thing comes with a fan, be happy and use it lol
I upgraded the hard drive in my laptop, so to make good use of my old hard drive I bought an enclosure for it, now I have a 500gb internal hdd in my laptop and a 320gb external with a nice looking enclosure. That's why you buy an enclosure. Same could be true for a desk top.
I have bought two of the Antec MX-1 and I installed in the second a quite big hard Drive: Western Digital WD2001FASS (Caviar Black, 7200RPM, 64MB Cache)
in what way does a cooler make a 7200RPM drive faster, it keeps the same amount of rpm..... and read-write doesnt increase. Ive seen this before and its not necessary if your case is cool enough. (my harddrive never exceeds 35C, and thats after 3 days of being on.
If your case is too cool, your harddrive shouldn't be under 30C or over 45~C. If it is outside of the boundaries, it could lower the life of the drive. Most harddrives are designed to operate around those temperatures so saying your case is cool enough could mean anything, 35C could be the ambient temperature in saudi arabia and the drives would require more cooling to keep it cool. If your in canada with a ambient of 18C, you would want to keep it with minimal cooling on the drive
I was talking about the harddrive temperature, whuch is mostly between 30-35C, the room temperature is around 20-25C, outside varies on the season, right now, its -1C outside.
external Hard Drive or external storage drive are expensive..a good option is Hard Drive Enclosure which are cheap...all this thing are use to backup your important data..
great review. Thank you very much

I don't understand enclosures. Maybe I will someday...
BadYe8r 2 years ago
basicly, you can put an internal hard drive in them, and it can be used as an external backup hard drive.
Internal hard drives costs less than external ones. These enclosures let you put in an internal hard drive and take it with you anywhere.

what is purpose of enclosure?
nirvan5a 2 years ago
I believe it's so you can easily install a HDD without opening your case up, and it's portable, and it's cooled.

would it be cheaper to do this vs buying a regular external hd?

awesome review. i like the concept since most external hd runs way too hot... installation is a little too complicated for average users, though.
