Come on guys, driving on flat slickrock is not off-roading. Throw some extreme bumps and pits in there. Now, the one section was getting exciting, but they looked kind of groomed. You should have thrown some all-terrains on those things and gone up some Colorado mountain forest roads. I know a few here that would make those trails blush.

(Part 1) IMHO, it seems that Moab is starting to become the Nurburgring for off-road testing. While I liked this particular body style for the VW Touareg, I'm sorry to see VW redesign the model line and drop the V8. Although, w/much of the world hoping on the "Going Green" issue and reducing our Carbon Footprint, I can see why a lot of car makers (not all though) are going w/more potent V6's VS V8's....
While someone said a VW is never seen out in the hills/Mountains of MOAB, though I've never been there, I don't think it's ALL because the car would brake (I doubt that anyway), I just think it's because the type of owner of said VW Touareg...just isn't the type of person who would want to go out in the desert. My buddy got a Touareg when it first came out. No one could fix it as it broke several times. VW had to fly a mechanic from Germany to fix it. Still did not solve its problems.

VW thought that their Touareg would be very well selling car, because it had lot's of power, and decent 4wd system. In reality, people wanted the robust looks and everything else of normal style SUV, This is why Touareg was much less success than they planned. Still pretty interesting car anyway.

Yes, I drove a Touareg V10. And I thought I was in a Golf. It's a street car with 4wd, not an offroader. Maybe it's a street car with a strong engine but its not for REAL offroad. I've seen enough Tuaregs fail under offroad conditions so I know what I am talking about. Go and drive some real offroader in difficult terrain and you will notice the difference. And dont always trust the pretty commercials. They try just to build an cool image arround this car.

IT'S NOT FUCKIN SPORT ! .It's fast on a straight line cuz it has big engines but this is not the kind of car that you compare with the x5 at on-road performance ! but don`t get me wrong . i think the touareg is much better than the x5 anyway . and the new model is one of the best suv`s .touareg & range rover are the best.mitsubishii too but not in the same class

Dont know this doesnt look to hard to me i think my subie forester can do the same. only parts that look like i would have trouble is 9:00 and 17:00 but thats just because of ground clearance. and dont get me wrong i give the touareg props for this, its a beast suv, my friend has one and i love it

that just wasted the last 18 minutes of my life... heh... you guys all talking about your jeeps and hummers for this stuff, ill tell you, i only saw 2 parts of the video (the articulation test at 9:00, and the rock at 17:00) that my HONDA CR-V would have had any trouble with... and i probably could have gotten through there with no more trouble than this Touareg did... this thing is a joke off-road.

stir axles is no racing suspention, in no way.
i would never buy a car with stir axles, even if it's a vw.
it's SUV, not a offroad vihicle, like a the humvee, the original landrover defender.
the german army uses the mercedes G.
die hard ofroaders with stir axles have to prepare their suspention, too prevent the springs off falling from the vihicle.

Yes, I drove a Touareg V10. And I thought I was in a Golf. It's a street car with 4wd, not an offroader. Maybe it's a street car with a strong engine but its not for REAL offroad. I've seen enough Tuaregs fail under offroad conditions so I know what I am talking about. Go and drive some real offroader in difficult terrain and you will notice the difference. And dont always trust the pretty commercials. They try just to build an cool image arround this car.

Stupid comment, it won't beat going thru narrow trails, (try Truckhaven) or places where the suspension limits it's ability.
The king of overall worldwide off road vehicles is any Toyota Land Cruiser or the Land Rover Defender, the G wagen is also at the top of the list. Jeeps are capable but not as realiable. Don't argue data.
