This lute version will always mean a lot to me. It was playing when my grandmother passed away in the nursing home we had to place her in when her dementia got so bad she was attacking my small children. Her last day was so bittersweet. I was sitting by her side, reading "Steppin' Out," when she grabbed my wrist and tried to speak, but all that came out was gargling noises and spit. We buried her the next day, in the plot she always wanted, right next to Lawrence Welk and his wife.
I've given this another listen just to see what all the fuss is about. Yes, it's not Weiss, Hagen, Dowland, Johnson or Da Milano. But, it's something, in it's own way, far more exciting than such a composition. It's a popular artist playing a popular MODERN tune on a once popular instrument which undeservedly ceased to be enjoyed for centuries. No reason a lute can't play a rock balad where another would use a flat-top steel string guitar. I think it sounded very charming.
You know, not everyone who played the lute in Dowland's day was avirtuoso. In the renaisance, many were amateur musicians who played the lute to accompany themselves. They didn't always play art music either. Dowland, Johnson, and Byrd used popular balad tunes as the basis for many of their compositions. It's great to see that the lute now has people who play it just to accompany themselves even if they're not virtuosi. That, and I love sting! This is so cool!
I've forgotten the actor's name, but their is always something horribly pathetic and embarrassing about him (or his persona). Quite nauseating. I feel sorry for him. I don't care for Sting's singing or lute playing, but I like the way that he is popularizing the lute.
Okay I cant hold back anymore.. this fucking sucked... I would rather see how many fucking grapes I can fit in my fucking asshole than listen to this again... this is complete garbage.

I completely dislike this song... I'm putting it as nicely and as mature as I possibly can.

Sting playing the lute reminds me of John Malkovich becoming a puppeteer in 'Being John Malkovich'.

And what's wrong with that? I'm looking for more videos of Sting on the lute and too many don't even have him playing it.
