@MooCow354 No we do not breed, this would be adding to the problem of big cats living their lives in cages, instead we can use our resources to rescue animals and work towards better laws regarding these animals :)
@lpsabi She was rescued along with Cameron the male lion, they were living together and must have been raised together from a young age so they got along. Any cats we rescue that are living together we try and keep them together so they have some companionship, so we fixed them both and they share a 2 acre enclosure :) Tigers are solitary by nature as are all cats except lions, so if we introduced Zabu to another tiger they would have fought.
Thanks for the comment, I think the kid's really enjoy the tour at Big Cat Rescue compared to zoos etc.. where they are behind glass most of the time.
Wow, I'd love to hear the pretty sounds each big cat makes. He(Jeff) was describing their communication and it made me want to sit and listen to those cats for an afternoon. Too bad I'm not in Florida or I'd go on a tour!
jelly17000, I know what you mean I could do that too, funny that you should mention the cat sounds, I'm currently filming all these guys making their weird noises for a future podcast, it just takes a while and they always do it when you haven't got your camera! But stay tuned, thanks for watching!
vickiormindyb, before we were known as Big Cat Rescue our name was wildlife on Easy St, Easy st being our physical address. So we have a few omnivores living on property, civets, genet cavy and Banjo the Binturong. He was used as an educational animal (being shown at schools etc) and he retired at BCR.
He didn't mention leopards as a big cat that likes to swim, but I thought that leopards, tigers and jaguars are the three big cats that are very good at and enjoy swimming. Was I wrong? Do leopards not like the water?
WHat a wonderful VERY informative opportunity for the kiddos and parents alike! I love how the message is given about WHY you dont want these cats as PETS.... Great Job guys!
The tour guide is Jeff Kremer, he volunteers at the weekend and some weekdays, his tours have got a good reputation, both for the kid's and adult tours.
It's great that you do the tours geared to the little ones. Kids should learn from an early age to treat animals with respect and kindness -- and to learn all the ways they can help both captive and wild animals.
does BCR do breeding or do you fix all of your animals?

This is such a wonderful way to educate the youth!
It's great to see kids exploring the world of big cats in such a great, positive environment as opposed to a zoo or a circus!
=)

You're right Leopards can and do swim, I guess Jeff the tour guide just chose not to mention the leopard as to cause confusion with the kids.
Well spotted though!

My daughter cried over the fate of those dogs. We couldn't finish reading her the book and had to tell her the dogs were okay.
Her DAD told her they became 101 mascots for 101 fire departments. Silly, yes, but he always made her feel better.
