was really touched by Jon’s story. I am an undergrad at the University of Texas at San Antonio and have done a lot of research in neurophysiology; specifically, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). When I saw this video last year, I had decided to complete an Ironman and have been training ever since. I am now signed up for the 2012 Ironman Western Australia and watch this video every day before my workouts.
The back of Jon's (Tri-Jersey) said it all, "Fighting ALS"...as the athlete and the begining of his WarOnALS...as he is through Team Blazeman and all who've joined him...and the Blazeman Foundation for ALS...as he said in 2006..."fight for a cause that is bigger than the self"...the cause "so others may live."...Freedom...(from ALS)...thank you and "believe."...bmom and bdad...jon's mom and dad.
In 2005 Answer to the call, like those… A Fighting Bum who found his the Eye of the Tiger in a Meat Freezer. A Farmer who became a Warrior Poet and Freed a Country. A Thelma and Louise who out ran the Law in a Blaze of Glory. A General who became a Gladiator and gave back Rome it's True Self. A Kid who Learned to Dance Against all Odds. A Friend who became a Long Distance Friend even after all these Years. Who is at it again… HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! With Tough Love, -blazeman..
The Queen K Highway...where the -blazeman..."faced his fears and lived his dream...and put an Ironman's face to ALS"...rolled the finish, for (awareness and a cure)..."so others may live." simply put he raced for a cure!!!...bdad...jon's dad.
Fratres! .. Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead! ... Brothers, what we do in life... echoes in eternity. "
Blais: challenged ALS, raged against the dying of the light "The most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well." -Baron de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games
"I first saw your incredible story while watching the 2005 Ironman. As an avid baseball history fan I consider Lou Gehrig one of the greatest because he was likely the first to give ALS a voice. Your voice has been much louder and stronger thank goodness. The words THANK YOU are not enough to express how you have opened eyes and minds about ALS and hopefully soon there will be a cure."
When we think of "tough" we think of Boxing or MMA John Wayne, but the real bad asses are ppl like Jon Blais who show courage and will in a fight they know they have no chance of winning and there's no traineror ref to toss in the towel
awesome, awesome, awesome!!!! Ive been training intenly for the past couple months, but im so scared that I may not make it…… does anybody has some advice for this rookie??Last week I saw a new movie, “Discover the Gift”, which talks about being true to yourself and do whatever you do best giving 100% all the time. I loved it! facebook. com/discoverthegift
Al, soon we will be back on the "Big Island"...and every year my wife and I through out son, "the-blazeman"...hear yours and his words..."you can learn a lot about life on the Big Island"...and yes, each should cherish the day,.."today is what we have, it's what we all have."...the story continues and we "warrior on" for a cure...Freedom (from ALS)..."so others may live."...so we also have an "ALS SURVIVOR"...after all it is said, "anything is possible", we hope HI's goods are with us, bmom bdad
ΦΔΘ for ALS. Always for the balzeman. 2010 Indiana mini marathon i rolled across the finish line for ALS. not for me not for phi delt but for jon blais.
@cha4sasha it something terrible it kills you by paralyzing parts of your body parts at a time until you slowly die. join ALS groups. more research is better. And please never forget those who fought the great fight
@Seufz 2005 was actually done by another production company. Al Trautwig (the narrator on this clip and all the NBC produced versions) was not used in 2005.
The 2005 documentary really sucked. The writing was poor and the production values don't even come close to the NBC produced versions.
Perhaps the greatest opening comments of any athletic competion I've ever heard. We did learn alot about life...how precious it is and how quickly it can be lost.
Brian Breen...Blazeman Warrior, "man of iron...with a heart of gold.
if somebody emails this to me, can i burn it using my computer onto dvd? the person that posted this video, will you please email it to me or send me the link where i can download it? thanks..

I bought the 2006, it is incredibly inspirational. Sadly, Jon Blais was right, he was going to "be gone" before the 2007 race. He passed away in May.
