@ariesrapid Most likely due to the drastic increase in the pre-tax income of the top 1% US households. Between 1980 and 1988, the average pre-tax income of the top 1% increased from $80,000 to $150,000 (source: IRS Statistics of Income), mostly due to inflation.
Since Dan Mitchell uses all individuals boasting over $200,000 in pre-tax income to constitute his data without adjusting for inflation, it follows that he would show a much higher percent of the population being "rich" in 1988.
But in the pre-Reagan tax system, the government took $19 billion out of $36.2 billion; over 50% in total taxes. After the Reagan tax cuts, the government got $99.7 billion out of 353 billion; about 28%.
So over all, the Reagan tax cuts resulted in the government getting proportionally less money (there were 7 times as many "rich" people in 1988 than 1980, but the government only got 5 times as much money).
The tax code is flawed, but tax cuts still inevitably result in less money.
“You shall not charge interest to your countrymen: interest on money, food, or anything that may be loaned at interest so that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land which you are about to enter to possess." Deuteronomy 23:19
...to which future interactions would reflect and society would respond.
Or...we could point guns at everyone, rob everyone, encage peaceful people for voluntary interaction that is somewhat disagreeable to a society indoctrinated by mythical - religious nonsense...of which they base their "moral" compass (when it fits - seeing as they neglect all the evil within religion)...

Dan Mitchel is awesome!
My school is trying to start up a Youth for Ron Paul organization. I would love if Dan Mitchel would come as a guest speaker.

By the way, Mitchell - you're the best. I know you will, but I want to encourage you to keep it up.
