Its funny when i first saw a thresher maw i had a conversation with my friend asking him if there were any monster while driving the tank and he was like "no", than BOOM THREASER MAW
Holy crap! THAT's a thresher maw?! That thing's terrifying and a half. (And really makes me wonder how a Shepard with Sole Survivor managed to escape those things.)
The first time I came up against a Thresher Maw I s**t myself.
There was no heads up or anything. I was just exploring a random planet and then all of a sudden this thing just pops up from the ground and starts spitting at me.
Yeah, any completely flat land I avoid like the plague. Slightly bumpy terrain is fine, and the really rocky stuff is fine, but flat ground I stay away from. Even when my ship is first dropped off, I don't move until I can find the shortest distance to to some rocky ground. I'm weird like that!
Call me strange, but these things are the reason I literally stick to riding on the rocky, slightly vertical lands.
I've always had this weird like, phobia I guess, of things underneath me in games. Whether the surface be water, ground etc...doesn't matter, I always get freaked out knowing theres something under the surface. Wish there was a way to tell where these things could be!
dude i know exactly how you feel... i hate fighitng these things until they're above ground... which is why i try to get kinda close to them so that they stay up
Yeah, if I'm forced into an obvious situation with them, like the mission in the video, then I go out slowly, and when they surface, I get a bit closer to them, then stay there, just using my thrusters to jump over their projectiles, cause I know that if I move, they move, and I hate that!
Heh, yeah, know what you mean. Especially when you don't know there's one there. Even when I know one is lurking, waiting to ambush the Mako, they still make me jump.
Heh this planet kinda reminds me of Tatooine from Star Wars with its desert and dust storms. And that Thresher is sorta the mobile equivalent of the Sarlaac monster :) You'd think though, that it'd have enough intelligence to surface from more than 2 locations if it wants to ambush them. Driving that Mako all around the place must be fun though.
It's very similar to Tatooine, I agree. The threshers are lethal, instakills if you get too close, but it's useful that they tend to surface within a certain radius, so the retreat and shoot tactic works well, although I've never encountered a regenerating thresher before.
The Mako is definitely fun to drive, exploring the planets, although when I first started playing it took me a while to get used to driving it. I'm using keyboard and mouse, and the Mako can be a tad twitchy at times.

A good way to tell is to look for an objective that is in the middle of circular like flat field. They are almost always there.

So if you aren't on one of those planets, you're safe.
