The GTR`s times are done with road legal tyres. 2012 GTR`s Top gear track time where slicks are banned is 1min 17.8. The ZR1`s time is 1min 20.4 which is a massive 17 places down form the GTR. The Z06 does 1min 22.4, an enormous 28 places below the GTR. Without any cheating from the Vettes the GTR absolutely distroys both the ZR1 and Z06. Its also 600 lb heavier and 153 hp down on the ZR1

just over £100k for the ZR1 is no dout a very good deal, however the GTR is around half the price and if you where to spend the extra to make it up to the same price as the ZR1 then am afraid the GTR would be in a different league, just have a look at the AMS tunned GTRs.
@QBNQBN the GT-R is $90k for a the base model, while the the ZR1 is $110k. Yea there a big margin, but that 20k will disapear very quickly when it comes to performance parts.

I hope you people realize how BADLY the ZR1 driver was short-shifting (about 4,000RPM shifts.. WTF?) appanretly to not leave the rest of the competition far behind and still it reached 200mph. All the other cars were shifting at 6,000RPM++.. !

The driver of the ZR1 shouldn't have shifted into 5th or 6th gear at such low RPMs. On all the other first gears, it might've been alright because the torque the ZR1 produces enables the car to keep gaining speed quickly. But 5th and 6th gear were just seriously short-shifted making it seem like it was cruising instead of racing.

why? there is no physical or whatever reason why a v12 should produce more power if the torque and rpm r the same. Same for Fuel consumption.
The main reason the gtr is so heavy is the 4wd system and all the electrical stuff - which the zr1 lags, its more mecanical
well, if i had the money, i would by a c63; sounds and looks great, also good ride quality and some luxury and way enough power.
Or maybe an m3 or rs4 or even a 911 turbo, dont know :D

I honestly don't know if I would put $3k into the ZR1, I think it's such a perfect balance as it is from factory that somtimes factory spec is perfect. On the other hand the GT-R just screams for upgrades not much , but 100HP would even out the playing field in comparison test at 100km+ weir the GT-R starts looking slow. MyOP

I hope you people realize how BADLY the ZR1 driver was short-shifting (about 4,000RPM shifts.. WTF?) appanretly to not leave the rest of the competition far behind and still it reached 200mph. All the other cars were shifting at 6,000RPM++.. !

@f14tomcatfreak The ZR1 gets the highest HP numbers at well over 6K RPM. The driver of the ZR1 shouldn't have shifted into 5th or 6th gear at such low RPMs. On all the other first gears, it might've been alright because the torque the ZR1 produces enables the car to keep gaining speed quickly. But 5th and 6th gear were just seriously short-shifted making it seem like it was cruising instead of racing.

Everything has to be perfect (shifting, grip, and reaction time from the driver). Even if the surface isn't right, you probably wont get it either.

ME myself can't drive it on a track, I would care about 0- 60 in small winner gets pride situations at stop lights, I don't care really what the lap time is...

Zr1 with 638 hp with like what 3200lbs, gtr with 480hp and 3800 lbs. The zr1 with 638hp with the 3200lb body beat a 480 hp gtr with 3800lbs. You guys think that's kinda a disadventage? Put the gtr against the z06 505hp. The gtr would walk all over the z06.

@gattler Maybe because you're letting a biased show like Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear to fool you. There are plenty official lap times done by these 2 cars and the ZR1 has obliterated the poor GT-R. Even the 2012 Corvette Z06 has smoked the GT-R at the tracks, for an even better price. You should get an education about cars before speaking about them like this. Take a look at what happened at Laguna Seca and Nordschleife (Nurburgring), where the 2012 models of these cars have all been tested at.

@gattler For the GT-R to be able to pull off 7s, it should go under some serious diet OR add shitloads of power if it's capable of sustaining it. The number of cylinders doesn't really matter. There are 4-cylinder engines capable of hitting 6s with tons of psi.

New benchmarks are things like power to weight ratio, total mass, handling, gear changes, efficiency, etc...
