Arnold doesn't work for the people of California. He works for the businesses and the ruling class. Blocks of industry pretty much manipulate political systems so their interests get benefitted.
But I know what you mean. I went to CSU Northridge from fall 2007 to spring 2009 (transfered out) and I knew firsthand how shitty the cuts were.
My university is struggling and some cuts have been made, but its not interfering with me personally. The one thing that got me angry though was tuition increase, even after two major protests . What happened to you happened to me: they increased tuition right before school started. Before enrolling for classes, they put a huge disclaimer saying that tuition might increase a few days before classes start. So now I'm keeping an eye on my balance. I agree with you 100%. I hope we get through this!
i just got my associates degree, i think i will just find a job because it is too much a hassle getting a BS degree now... so many classes cut here too on the east coast and tuition goes up like 5% every semester
How about cut funding BIG time for the military, BILLIONS are spend on bigger bombs, more soldiers etc etc. All in the name of peace offcourse. Stop the killing and people will like de VS a lot more AND you'll have more money for education, healthcare and other things that are important. And yeah.. everyone 'needs' an army these days, to defend your people against other bad people. Just not an force big enough to pull of a 'hitler'. Just my 2 cents, bit off topic but a solution imo.
@Adsem Totally. But you need to realize WHY we spend so much on the military in the first place. States go to war to protect industries' profits. Definitely check out the book "War Is A Racket".
hi dear Paulina, this all happened most likely before u were born with prop 13 they put a clause in this prop so that it takes a 2/3rds' vote to change the ruling so they haven't been able to raise property taxes to run the state properly since circa '78 so tax cuts for the rich and keep locking folks up for victimless drug crimes for the prison industrial complex , which adds up to an ivy league tuition at say over 50 grand an inmate and the whole goldman sachs aig pump and dump pyramid scheme!
As you well know, I am currently going to Sacramento State, and the furlough days are making a pronounce statement here on campus. The professors had to take a pay cut, 9 furlough days, and an elimination of wait lists.... along with lines waiting outside of class rooms... plus the famous increase of wages.... what the hell
When I went to UC Berkeley it cost $150 per semester--in fees. It was tuition-free. People have to get motivated to educate themselves via libraries and the Internet.
That's the sort of thing that irritates the crap ouf ot me. There's a deficit in the state budget and the governor and the state legislature have to cut corners somewhere, and education spending gets cut, but not the governor's salary. Of course not. He's too important.
A country that wants a strong economy has to give priority to education. There are no two ways about that.
I actually cant hear what ur saying cause my volume is turned all the way down since im watching a movie but i'll tell u again, I LOVE U and i think ur hot...... but im definitely going to watch this again to hear wgat you said.
Hey Paulina; sucks to be in your situation. I'm a 3rd year student at the University of Toronto here in Canada. Over here tuition has increased but I can't say that my school is anywhere near the situation yours is in. For me, I'm 24 and still doing my undergrad, only because my course load is based on how much money I can save up. I've pretty much been going part time since the end of first year, plus I've taken time off from studies. It's not the end of the world; you'll still get a degree
The "Elite" do not want us to educate ourselves. Thier offspring will be taken care of, so screw those of us who weren't born well but want to at the very least be self sufficiant. Trying to pay for an education sets a person for a life time of debt, it seems.
I'm lucky, I've got the Govm'nt to pay my tuition and even an allowance (Yea, Canada). I do have to live like a hobo for a year though.
30% increase!!! That's insane! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your university. I'm glad you're in the final year and won't have that to deal with next year (unless you're going to do graduate studies). I wish there was a better system to get higher education to people cheaper. I think it's necessary to advance the country's base knowledge beyond what was acceptable in years passed. I just read about the Open University. Very interesting concept.
P00P0STER0US- I'm debating on applying for graduate school because there has been a lot of rumors of a four year freeze in the CSU system. As is there already is a freeze in the Spring 2010 session. Hopefully the four year freeze is just a rumor that will never occur.
I am not in US school, I am from Sri Lankan School. But this financial recession directly occurred me to stop studies for a while and work to live. We work almost 18 hours for a day to survive.
You hit the important parts right on the head. It's a sad state of affairs when you are paying 32% more in tuition for less actual days of education. It will go down as one of California's major mistakes. Voting down 1a and voting up Prop 13 goes to show where our priorities are in this state. Prop 13 needs reform for corporations or we'll never dig ourselves out of this hole.

30% increase in tuition and 8 days less education for your money. Sounds like a deal! Thanks California!
UCSF is facing those troubles too... I'm an employee, not a student.

ChristopherMast- Does UCSF staff have to take any pay cuts and/or mandatory furlough days?

Some do and some don't... lucky for me, the nurses were spared.
