if you mean in to your after effects project...

just go to: file \ import and select the audio/music track you want...

If you want to add a track to your project then you need to choose file other than .mp3 !! After Effects works well with .wav files. You may simply get some converter to conver mp3 to wave. Just google a little :)

Since I'm timing this with an audio track, when I preview the project normally, the animation works, but when I preview by pressing alt + period (which allows me to hear the audio) the animation doesn't work.

Why is this?
