The passage starts by talking about people who already have rejected God. They worship idols. They eventually end up having same-sex relationships. In Corinth there were temple prostitutes. People went to those prostitutes to have sex. An act of sex with a temple prostitute was worshipping another god. This is what was taking place.

The problem is not with the Bible, but with how it has been incorrectly translated and interpreted. I do not believe any of the Bible verses had the intention of condemning gays. I believe the target was really those who worship other gods. That seems to be the context involved.

In fact, the word did not exist in ancient Hebrew or Greek. The only form of same-gender sexual relationships condemned in the Bible are those that were an act of worship to pagan gods.

The only thing I like about the position you posted is the call to treat GLB people with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Few denominations emphasize that. I think GLB people are likely to be treated better in a Catholic parish than in most other denominations. Chastity, as I believe you define it, can be seen with gays in long-term, committed relationships.

You need to go back and reread the story. The word homosexual was not used in Genesis Chapter 19. Sodom was going to be destroyed before the angels got there. The condemnation took place before the angels visited. Your understanding is in opposition to the Word of God. Ezekiel 16:49-50 outlines the sins of Sodom. There are many things that do not relate to having children that are not a sin. Not everything has to revolve around a pregnant woman. Again, your logic is not very good.

Re: Leviticus law. Don't impose that on others unless you live by the law. The law says we are to kill anybody who works on Saturday and rebellious teenagers. Unless you have done that, you violate the law.

The passage starts by talking about people who already have rejected God. They worship idols. They eventually end up having same-sex relationships. In Corinth there were temple prostitutes. People went to those prostitutes to have sex. An act of sex with a temple prostitute was worshipping another god. This is what was taking place.

While I respect the Catholic church, the Catholic church is not the only expression of the Christian faith, nor is the Catholic church's position the be-all and end-all on issues of doctrine. The problem with the official Catholic position is that the term "intrinsically disordered" is generally considered to be highly insulting, and is not treating gay people with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.

Even for straight people, the inclination to have sex before marriage is disordered (lust).
So, straight or gay, we are ALL called to chastity. We can't decide how we are, but can decide what we do.
There have been a lot of misunderstandings unfortunately, and I agree that someone discriminates gay people.
But this is not what our Church teaches.

The only thing I like about the position you posted is the call to treat GLB people with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Few denominations emphasize that. I think GLB people are likely to be treated better in a Catholic parish than in most other denominations. Chastity, as I believe you define it, can be seen with gays in long-term, committed relationships.

Loneliness can be solved by a meaningful relationship (friendship or otherwise) with either a man or a woman. Just because a man and a woman are married does not mean there is balance. Check out the divorce rates - too high to show that this "balance" is really there.

This passage is interesting. There is little agreement on how to translate the word. To translate a word that never existed in ancient Hebrew or Greek into a modern word that did not exist until within the last 2 centuries is not a good practice. That can result in serious mistakes. The context of the passage remains idol worship. Charles Errdman (old commentator), in his commentary on 1 Corinthians indicates, The practice of impurity formed a feature of idolatrous worship.

I know this is probably none of my damn business since you weren't talking to me, but I'm fed up with people calling homosexuality a "lifestyle choice." I can provide quotes from numerous sources (including Focus on the Family and the American Psychological Association) showing that homosexuality is not a choice.
You can always choose what you do, but you can never choose what you feel, and that means you can't choose who you're attracted to either.

Nowhere in the Hebrew or Greek manuscripts of the Bible does the word homosexuality appear. Homosexuality is not mentioned in the Bible. Don't keep lying to yourself son.

That is not true. You need to better understand the Hebrew and Greek. The word translated Homosexual in the Christian Scriptures in a few Bibles is a not translated well. This term was likely used to describe male prostitutes. Most gay people are not selling their bodies in the temples of other gods.

You can google "George Washington Carver" and gay. That should give a number of sources. I suspected he was gay when I started reading about him - never married, and very talented in performing arts - not just in the field of science. Online, I noticed quite a few web sites that said he was gay and a few web sites that indicated the name of his partner. Very interesting.

We need to get a few things straight. First, you earn the right to witness to people. You have not earned that right with me. So you can back off with the attitude. You imply stuff that is illogical and insulting. Then you get upset when the reaction that is earned comes along. You are not sharing truth; you are sharing your doctrine. There is a difference.
Serving a load of manure on a plate for supper is not a good way to witness.

Hatred of gay people is based on bigotry, and faulty interpretations of the Bible. Those faulty interpretations do not make you a bad person, nor do they make you less a Christian. We have a doctrinal disagreement. Gay people are not demon possessed any more than straight people are. To take the position that gay people are possessed, is to show Biblical ignorance and bigotry beyond comprehension.

Just because we do not agree on how to interpret a text does not mean I am twisting the texts. You may want to try reading the texts in context. First, look at the purpose of the book of the Bible. Then look at the major themes and points made in the chapter, and in the chapter before and after. Only after you've done that can you understand the contextual passage. A text taken out of context is a pretext.

Thanks. :-D I try to remember to include bisexual people, because they tend to be overlooked in both straight and gay communities. When bisexual people are in an opposite-sex relationship, everybody thinks "straight." And when bisexual people are in a same-sex relationship, everybody thinks "gay."

We disagree on interpretation of the Bible. These passages are about people who worship pagan gods and go to the temples of the pagan gods and have sex with the prostitutes in those temples.
Re: Leviticus law. Don't impose that on others unless you live by the law. The law says we are to kill anybody who works on Saturday and rebellious teenagers. Unless you have done that, you violate the law.

I would have to say I agree that it is ok to be a gay Christian b/c we all fall short in different ways but I would have to disagree with you that homosexuality is condoned by god. It is still sin, and falls near adultery and fornication. I think the point god was trying to make regarding sexual morality was not to abuse sexual relations for what it was intended for, children & maintaining a family. You act for god first, any other reason astray to that is a form of idolatry.

I am glad you feel people can be gay and Christian. The reality is God created, as part of creation's diversity, gay animals (hundreds of species), and gay people. People are created by God to be gay. Homosexuality is God ordained.
Sex was intended for a lot more than just creating children. Otherwise, sex between senior citizens or in an infertile relationship would be an abomination.
You sound like you are making heterosexuality and the family idols.
