i got the archos 9 but put full windows 7 pro on it instead of this, but i was thinking of putting this on it, do u think ubuntu would run on the archos 28?, it probably won't but i was just wondering if it would. i bought it to take around europe so i can have access to the internet.

I'm running 10.10 now. Also make sure you don't have any other PPA or source of mplayer, the VAAPI-enabled mplayer is in the GMA500/ppa

Fixing Xv is not a high priority, it would only accelerate scaling but since the CPU is too slow to decode most codecs, you would not notice a big difference: Instead of black, you would see stuttering video.

For people asking why he has so bad video performance and bad 3d (glxgears), he needs to install poulsbo-3d and some more packages. I get nice fullscreen video performance using mplayer and gnome-mplayer. glxgears even at over 700

i have ordered one of these myself and also plan on installing 10.04, i also plan on upgrading to an ssd and upgrading the existing memory.

Does anyone know the max RAM the archos 9 can take??

@rette7mich i'm not familiar upgrading the ram on this device. its onboard ram so you'd have to do a bit of soldering. my skills at soldering a circuit board are a little weak, so i'll stay away from that for a while.

@CyberMageOram I've tried installing all versions of (s)mplayer from every repo i can think of, i still get the same error. as for ssd, its not a priority as I'm working on getting a version of linux working on the archos 101
