if your xbox wont play the disc keep tapping the xbox while its layed down until it plays your disc open and keep closing and tapping ur xbox it will wrk trust me i do it all the time :)

@Mrx1908 I would say force it to reset by over heating it. You can do this with the towel trick or the easier way, 2 q-tips cut the end of one side of both, and stick them in the fans in the back of the xbox (ultimately stoping them) power up, (only have power cord plugged in), let it stay on for about 5-8 mins, it'll flash 2 red lights, unpower, let sit for about 10-15 mins, then reboot...it MAY work then, never dealt with service moded

Did you leave it on over heat for a few mins (blinking 2 left quad lights)? If you did everything right and still not works, then Microsoft just f-d you, cause if they are the only ones who can do it then that means they connect to it via a computer. I have no idea how to modify xbox software.
@Mrx1908 Personally I'd go, find a RRoD xbox from a friend and buy it (or get it for free depending how friendly they are), get some thermal paste (best buy 9.99, I suggest Dynex SIlver thermal compound), a t-9 AND t-10 screw driver (these are torque sizes for the bit, t-10 is relatively easy to find and maybe already have one, t-9 is a pain and can be found at lowes, a Kobalt 8-in-1 driver kit carries multiple sizes for like 6.99) ANd then use pennies to fix the xbox. Method DOES WORK!

Double stacked pennies seem to be too thick and press too hard against the chips causing a failure to ventilate error (which is false) to occur (2 left quad red lights, followed by a fan rev then auto shut down) all happens in like 10 seconds.Also some vids they say use VERY LITTLE thermal paste. NO, I suggest making sure the chip is evenly coated
@Mrx1908 Just not TONS of thermal paste and only cover the top of the 4 chips, this is what keeps the pennies attached so too much you goop it everywhere, too little and the heat isnt properly pulled fromt he chip which can make the RRoD re-appear or get a 2 light overheat error...fortionately its rather durable so I was able to tweek one xbox many times before i got it to work..just be gentle and try not to break or bend anything. Also always hang onto black screws

I'm so sick of... Putting my disc (game or dvd) into my xbox and instead of reading and loading the disk, it's just giving me the option to "open" the disk drive. So... I have to just open and close the drive over and over until it eventually reads the disk... Once one disk is read all disks are read. Couples hours after my xbox is off, the same problem persists.... FUCKING AGGRIVATING!

I've done this same swap fix to my garbage Samsung ms25 drive to a ms28 switching the card and no dice... :( My ms25 drive says Play DVD on ANY game i put, no matter if it's an xbox 360 or original game. @bogardboy need to dvd drive key from your old PCB board to be able to play games as the old board has the matched key to your xbox 360 motherboard just swaping the PCB would not work you will need to flash the new PCB with the new code the it will work I have done before took me ages to figure it out I hope this help use jungleflasher works very.

Please don't use WD-40, to solve the spindle stiffness. You want to use white silicon lubricant which can be found at any respectful electronics shop(ie, not Radio Shack). The best thing to use would be clear silicon lubricant, but its very hard to obtain.

@megaluisdeth WD40 can be risky, if you use too much. Like anything, moderation is key. If you over due it, it could get on the disc. That's, probably why some people think it's a bad idea. When in doubt get a new dvd drive and switch out the circuit boards.

If it just sounds like a constant running noise, it's just the fan, but if it sounds like your 360 is smashing your disc with a rock, you should be a little worried.
Thanks for demonstrating the fix. My 360's Hitachi drive seems to have this problem. In fact, ever since I got this 360 back from the repair center it's made a LOT of noise (they didn't send back the original). It's still under warranty so I guess I'm going to have MS do it (even though I'll have to wait for it). Just knowing that it's such a simple and stupid problem that I could fix myself is irritating.

Thanks for demonstrating the fix. My 360's Hitachi drive seems to have this problem. In fact, ever since I got this 360 back from the repair center it's made a LOT of noise (they didn't send back the original). It's still under warranty so I guess I'm going to have MS do it (even though I'll have to wait for it). Just knowing that it's such a simple and stupid problem that I could fix myself is irritating.
