as an Indian living in the great state of Connecticut, I saw we need auto-rickshaws in CT! They would make great delivery vehicles, and would be exceptionally fun to ride in the summer (or all year round in the South)... just don't get into an accident with anything bigger than a Smart Car!

Same world as yours. Your definition of pollution includes only emissions like SO2 and NOx while carefully excluding CO2 as pollutant. Rickshaw is cheaper because it gives better mileage than a Taxi. Better mileage means less fare as well as less ACTUAL POLLUTION INCLUDING CO2. Besides rickshaw is fitted with motorcycle engine and Indian govt now requires all motorcycle engines to be 4-stroke. Huh, Typical western educated man devoid of Indian practical common sense of grassroot people.

As before you do not see TOTAL POLLUTION and are only thinking about emissions when talking about pollution. well Autos are cheaper than taxi b'coz of that(better mileage) Why do u think they are more common than cabs unless where city authorities prevent like in parts of Mumbai. Besides 20Kmpl figure U provided is same as highest mileage of indian car Maruti800(21kmpl). Am comparing them only with Taxis not bikes. No such thing as OBSOLETE tech only RELEVANT technology. With Oil at $130 even Cycle-rickshaw is ok, speed same as cars in city traffic + NO pollution + Cheaper than Hydrogen/Hybrid Cars.
