  • If only the Kaiser had reached Mexico in time...

  • INCORRECT: "ghillie suits were used for catching poachers"

ghillie suits were actually developed for stalking deer for several days and eventually pouncing on the deer capturing it and letting a nobleman use the deer for a "mock hunt"

  • @MrLulzerz Scottish Gaelic gille, "lad,or servant " which the servants or hired staff would hide out in the brush and watch for poachers hunting fowl such as "snipes" thus were the word sniper came from aswell These fast moving small birds were hard to hit killing a few was skillfull

  • Australians invented the periscope at Gallipoli

  • @Themadaussie1973

    Well done Aussies.

They also pretty much stopped a serious German breakthrough in the 1918 Spring Offensive. Two divisions of Aussies held back several German ones. This pretty much saved the day for the Entente and meant the German Spring Offensive (the last desperate attempt to win the war) came to nothing.

German troops wrote in letters to their relatives that they feared Australian troops more than any other.

  • @McLarenMercedes

Thanks for the reply, I did'nt know that about the 2 Aussie divisions holding back 7 German ones.

Many allied armies had acheived amazing feats, unfortunately at the cost of so many lives.

  • @Themadaussie1973

I think their sacrifice wasn't in vain.

Although some people today claim the Versailles treaty was "unfair" (the war damage Germany owned was cut almost by half in 1922) it was very lenient compared to the peace treaty the Germans would have given the British and French had Germany won the war. Witness the Treaty of Bretsk-Litovsk, in which Russia lost a lot of its territory (9/10'th of its coal reserves) to Germany.

The Great War wasn't for nothing.

  • @Themadaussie1973 really? what did submarines use before then?

  • Respond to this video... Telepathic Seagulls

  • awesome vid

  • Did the ghillie suits make them color camouflage back then or just texture camouflage?

  • @cheese319 They also painted their suits and great coats with Earth tones. Some would wear sandbags over their heads with eye holes cut in them, or hoods covering their heads.

  • @BloodOfLove the average age of a ww1 veteran was actually 48. most were actually dead by the time ww2 came because they would have been exposed to toxic environments, such as poison gas, shells, rotting corpses, diseases etc.
