@robbopaloobop "willful ignorance and stupidity" is deliberately misinterpreting my comment. I never claimed it was best for self or home defense. It IS however a perfectly lethal round in the right hands. And behiind the ear is a poor choice of location. The skull is very thick there. Better the temporal bones, the pterigoids, base of the skull or anywhere in the lateral neck (carotids, jugulars).

For self defense at home I have a 12 guage, and I carry a 380 usually.

For you wanna be "hog hunters" there is a reason that the pros have years of animal tracing experience, rough terrain vehicles (for both advancing AND rapid strategic retreat... When you find, and startle, 400+/-lbs of boney armor plated dense mean muscle running straight for you (it's least vulnerable angle) at 25 mph...you'll fire your .22 about twice before that hog is on you all teeth, tusks and hooves. @viscache1 I've used a ruger 22/45 shooting subsonics twice to kill feral pigs when they surprised me on my land. Is it ideal? Of course not. Will it do the job? Absolutely.

At 25 yards they will go right throug the pig's skull and stone it dead with proper shot placement.

A 40gr HP from a 22 Magnum 4-6" revolver averages 1350-1400 fps. Definitely a more capable self-defense round than I would have considered until watching this video! Taurus makes a Tracker model in 9-shot 22 Magnum. Might have to give that some consideration for family members who are recoil-sensitive.

I wouldn't use a 22lr on a hog but if you do keep withing 25 yards you want to get the most out of power so keep it close even if you are accurate out to much further. A neck or head shot with immediate follow up shots might do. I say just use a center-fire rifle or big-bore handgun.

Not quite a JHP. The copper is just a thin coating on what is basically a soft lead hollowpoint bullet. The process is similar to nickel plating, but the result isn't nearly as thick or rigid as an actual copper jacket on a 9mm JHP for example.

@timmy101able The 380 is the better choice for a pistol because a 22 needs a long rifle barrel to gain enough speed to cause a wound like that, however i think a 22 rifle would do the job for home defense.

@rmthunder Yeah I hate only having a 22 but a shotgun or a pistol are out of my budget, but what I am saying is I would pick a 380 pistol over a 22 pistol because bullets travel slower out of a shorter barrel. Check out a guy here called tnoutdoors9 for more detail on the kinds of wounds different bullets cause, it looks like the 22 velocitor from a rifle does almost as much as a 380 from a pistol, I just think it's better than a baseball bat lol

@bagman234 Yeah, barrel length definately plays a part with .22's Theres another slow-mo vid uploaded here with the same round that shows the energy difference from a .22 pistol. noticable differnece. I carried a .380(TCP738) until I came across the PF9. Won't go back to .380 now. Especially with the lower cost of ammo. Gotta practice to be efficient. And fyi I have 2 H&R pardner pump 12ga's. Its a remington 870 clone but in the $150 range. You should check em out. I swear by em. Great value!

@bagman234 / look into the 22 mag. it will keep a tighter group at longer distance and the ammo is still reasonable. im sure it would drop a hog. and u would go from a 1200fps to more like 2000fps bullet.

@589h I got it at my local gun guy... You can get them at buds gun shop on line. It is nice, but you have to dial in the bolt spring for the ammo you fire, and it takes 30 minutes, so once you get it on the ammo you like leave it there. Mine is on Blazer lead heads and works well. Ruger's 10/22 is not so touchy and I think next one I get will be a 10/22. Plus you can add the cool folding stock.
