@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME Shea was built by the same people who built Dodger Stadium...Just Dodger Stadium was better maintained.. They were pretty similar
Interesting piece. I went to my first game at Shea in 1970. Saw a lot of great Mets games there and a few Jets games. I also remember the Yankees playing there in the mid 70's when Yankee Stadium was being renovated. Nicely done.
This was a nice tribute to Shea Stadium. It would have been nice if it was allowed to remain as opposed to being torn down. There is a history that is lost when something that brought so much joy to people is torn down.
Thanks for the video and the memories of the teams of the past.
The reason why the Mets collapsed last year to the Phillies and had such a horrible final game at Shea is because the pope gave his blessing at Shea and TO shea back in 1979.Which was the beginning of the Mets accent to Heaven. an upward climb to a championship years later. when the stadium was demolished so was the pope's blessing with it, because blessing can only be secured within walls of the stadium.once the stadium goes,so does the blessing out into greater universe and away from the mets
What is big deal about the mystery of these stadiums and their design. The engineers get degree in architecture. they learn a dozen floor plans to build dozens of stadiums. The rest is all about fancy names, advertising and interior decorating. if they tear down a beloved stadium to put up a luxury palace as with Citi Field and the new Yankee stadium, of course they need premium and VIP seating, and to camoflauge themselves as fan friendly they have discount plans & carnivals within the facility
You mean FORMER home of the Mets, because their new palace cost more than 28.5 million dollars but atleast 280.5 million dollars to build thus, if Jeff and Freddy play their cards right they could eventually make this into a 2.85 billion dollar royalty investment, and you get pieces of the stadium to bring home with you like collecting dinasour fossils
I've been a Mets fan since the last day of the 1983 season which was played at Shea against the Montreal Expos, who were my favourite team after the Mets. The Expos went into the bottom of the 9th with the lead. Strawberry got on base and another player who I can't recall. Then Rusty Staub pinch hit and put a dent in the bullpen plexi glass driving home the winning runs. I went to my first Mets game the following season to see them blow a lead against the SD Padres and lose the game. I miss Shea
I remember going to Shea Stadium a few times. Kind of sad now to know that it does not exist. It would have been nice if they left the stadium stand instead of knocking it down.
My home away from home. My Daughter caught a foul ball off the bat of Craig Biggio there, and my sons 1st game, he got a foul ball off of Steve Finley. 35 years of going to Shea and more than 300 games I have never caught a foul ball. I was at a game last week, and I was telling my Father-in-law that I still get the same feeling, when I walk through Gate B and toward the field and see the sea of Orange seats and the green grass. I love it. LETS GO METS!!!! I Love NY and Shea Stadium!!!
I've been a mets fan since i was old enough to like baseball. The only foul ball i ever caught was off of Craig Biggio too, how funny is that? I'm going to miss the staidium i grew up in.
@RAMSASS That's what he said... The Dodgers actually wanted the exact spot where the Nets are building their new arena in Brooklyn. The Dodgers wanted that spot in Brooklyn because of the same reasons the Nets are moving there, it's centrally located with mass transit and all but Robert Moses refused to give it to them.
I've actually read that Shea's original design was to be fully enclosed, with a brick facade and a dome not enclosing and adding the dome after it being built, which is stated in this video. It would've been the first domed baseball field.
my left ear enjoyed that

Why would they destroy a place where history was made ?!
SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME 1 year ago
@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME Um, because Shea was a dump... Look, they tore down Yankee Stadium twice and there's a TON more history there!!!

@livefrom201
The Dodgers Stadium is older than Shea, and it's still there.
And i never knew they tore down Yankee Stadium :P
SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME 10 months ago
@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME Yeah, Dodger Stadium was '62 and Shea in '64... Both Citi Field and New Yankee Stadium opened in '09.

@livefrom201 they did not "tear" down Yankee Stadium twice...they remodeled it during the 73-74 seasons.. But the structure remained.

I would have liked that as well, but there would be no parking there.
