This is so great....ha, ha, wow!!!!! I was 13 when this hit big in Canada, late '72, early '73. Listening to CJBK in London. Even bought the 45 when it came out. Loved the Stampeders (Rich Dodson). Thanx so much for posting this gem. Haven't heard it in...god it has to be 30 years!!!!!!!
This song was at a time when the Stampeders were transforming from their "Carry Me, Sweet City Woman" roots to the "heavier" sounding tunes such as "Wild Eyes" and "Running Wild". I have 5000 albums and singles. Tons of obscure Cancon that I should start to post.
I had this song on K-tels Believe In Music-22 Original Hits Original Stars...BUT I was a kid and can't remember this song although I know I wore the album out. I do remember, a bunch of them but not nothing on this one.
So here's the story. At the time, they thought they could improve their popularity. So this was released as a Dodson single. Later they did one for Kim Berly called Blue Eyed Woman. They never got around to doing one for Ronnie King, which co-incidently he was the only one to do a Stampeder album without Dodson & Berly. Kim Berly told me this. Just spent a half hour with Rich Dodson in a rain storm in Mattawa. It was great to talk to him. I wish I was in this band. Jeff Reid North Bay
My guess they credited to him because the simple reason of overkill. At the time they had a string of hits in canada and probably made sense to pass it off as a solo song, or figured a lot of the public wouldn't know who he was anyway.
Thx Mojo, good to see that some people remember this one. I knew the album just by the cover but never heard this song. Maybe even Dodson forgets how he got a solo billing on this.
This is a personal favorite and from a favorite group. Check out the vocal harmonies during the chorus! Extremely professional full-production sound recording.
Wow. Cool posting! Thanks for this. A true blast of Can Con retro!!!! Thanks to the newly passed Canadian Content legislation, we all got to hear radio play this song every 15 minutes in 1972! :D
