It's not uncommon for mothers to eat the deformed or dead babies. It has happened to a few of my hamsters. It's nature, sad :'( but natural.

Okay, mommy rabbits eat babies that wouldn't make it on their own. She recycles the protein. It's gross, but it happens. If she eats the body, she protects the rest of the litter from predators and ants! :) Actually, the more you bug her the quicker she's going to eat it.

one thing that my Dad told me is 2 never touch new born babies or the mother or father will eat their babies or ask ur parents 2 get a cloth or something so that the babies won't have ur scent or any smell of human its sad I have 2 rabbits of my own :'(

My bunny had babies, but we only found the babies a few days after the birth, and by then, they were all dead and Hershey (the mom) was eating them. It's insticts.. don't worry. There's nothing wrong with the mother. She does that so it doesn't attract the attention of predators, even if it is an indoor rabbit..

Daisy did have one more litter of bunnies, but it was another accident. They were completely normal, not a deformity in sight. I currently own one of the deformed rabbits and he's fine. My friend, the owner of the mother, still has a deformed one and I'm sure the rest of them are still alive and kicking.

it was her first litter though and it's pretty common for deformities to happen in certain parts of the pregnancy if it's the first.

uhg well, yes she was and we put it in the compost after which wasn't very smart probably but we didn't know what to do with it. and yes rabbits are vegetarians but I guess Daisy knew it was deformed and i think she thought it was the afterbirth or something of that sort.

no they are my best friends' bunnies but i was sleeping over when this happened.

right now they are 12 days old and there are

4 of them left but they all have strange ears.

2 of them have 1 ear and then practically not another ear except for a stump and then the 2 others just have stump ears.

they all are perfectly happy other than that!

originally there were 6 bunnies, excluding that one that died, two more died from exposure.
