Beck & Rosenberg are wrong. Khomeini did not ban the 12'er Shia. He banned the Hojjatyieh society, a particular messianic group, a tiny minority within 12er Shia, who were founded to be persecute the Baha'i faith. Furthermore, not all Muslims believe that the Mahdi will come after bloodshed. Many believed the Mahdi was the Bab, the co-founder of the Bahai faith. He did not bring war, nor did he come after war.
