The CO2 doesn't need to be refilled as much as he's saying, and you should only have one tank of CO2. The price is a cutback, they've proved it over time. I love this product. I have the newest one, and I use it a lot! It's saved me and my family about 5$ a week, which over time adds up. In you're terms, I would give it 4/5 'gears'. But as you said, if you don't drink lots of soda, this item isn't very beneficial for you. It's also VERY fun.
$1.20 per 2 Liter? You can get 2 Liters of Pepsi and Coke for as little as 70 cents when on sale. I just paid $1 per 2 Liter at Walgreens.... Spend more and do more work? No thanks.
I never see Coke or Pepsi that low, at least not in my town. The cheapest pop we have is .88 cents. I did the math, one of there bottles sodastream is $4.99 and it makes about 12 liters or 33 cans. Now .88 cents for 6 bottles which = to 12 liters is $5.28 so I think you do save some money so far.
@dontwastemoney Go to Walgreens right NOW its been in their store AD for 2 weeks now. 12-packs are 2.50 ea and 2 liters are 1.00 ea. Walgreens is a national company.
I don't shop at Walgreens unless I'm getting some meds. I go to Meijer's. It depends on how long the CO2 last, if it can make a whole sodastream bottle for $4.99 its worth it or more. If I know how long it last then I can really say if its good or not. But for me its cheaper when I did my math for myself.
@dontwastemoney Go to Walgreens right NOW its been in their store AD for 2 weeks now. 12-packs are 2.50 ea and 2 liters are 1.00 ea. Walgreens is a national company. Also, you need to factor in the CO2 and the unit to begin with. It's really worthless for me to do this-
I like the soda I dont like the proprietary threading on the co2 tank. Out of spite I'm going to get a universal adapter so I can refill the co2 anywhere.
There IS a value side to it. He says in the video that you can buy a liter of soda for 60 cents. Where in the heck can you buy a liter of Coke for 60 cents? The cost comes out to roughly 2 cents per ounce which is just about half the cost of Coke products (if you buy 12oz cans). So, even if you are comparing it to 2L bottles, it saves money.
@kshunsberger I am not familiar with the pricing of 1 liter bottles, but around here, Coke is roughly $1 per TWO liters one week per month, and sometimes goes as low as 88 center per 2 liters. With the sodastream, it costs 15 cents per can for the syrup, and 10 center per can to carbonate it (40 cents for a CO2 cartridge for 1 liter charge). That's 25 cents per can even if you use tap water and the same nasty re-used bottles.
If you read the ingredient list on the flavoring, you will notice the 'regular' flavorings have sucralose in them. That's what 'Splenda' is. So in fact, you think you're drinking regular soda when in reality you are drinking a partially diet drink. Not so good if you're allergic or just don't want to ingest artificial sweeteners. They make a point of advertising - NO Aspartame and NO High Fructose Cornsyrup. Sucralose is just as bad.
Instead of buying their overpriced, nasty syrups.. buy your favorite soda's in 2 liter bottles in large quantities when on sale. The problem there is that the soda will be flat before you consume it. SOLUTION, use the Sodastream to RECARBONATE your flat soda! Take that old flat COKE and give it a second life for the cost of a CO2 cartridge.
@SuperNinja35 There is still a problem though...The cost of the Sodastream unit is about $80! EEK! Too much! The CO2 cartridges are about 40 cents each.. and only carbonate 1 liter.. so that is 80 cents to carbonate a 2 liter bottle! The price of a 1 liter non-sodastream charger is about $50. So, again.. the total costs and hassle are not worth making one's own soda. The Sodastream people seem to have set their price to match store prices. Nobody is saving money with it.
Good idea, but not practical. The price of the generic syrups alone puts the cost at about 15 cents per can. Even at that price, better soda can be purchased cheaper already in the can. Then there is the cost of the CO2 cartridges, and cleaning out the small 1 liter bottle over and over. Then, the time spent measuring and mixing. It's a gimmick. The company making it needs to slash the cost of the syrups to have any chance of marketing this. However, I will share a good idea for this next...
On the price issue...If you drink sparkling water like me it only costs $15 for the CO2 refill...$15 for 60L of sparkling water...great deal..you don't have to buy their syrups anyway...you can use any of the koolaid mixes instead.
@beanz991 I don't think sparkling water is the same as carbonated water. I THINK sparkling water is natural mineral water such as Perrier or Dasani, etc. that has a little natural carbonation - not the same thing as carbonated water. But, you make a good point about their syrups. Their syrups are VERY expensive. Another issue is.. do people realize that bottled spring water is more expensive than gasoline? CRAZY!
My brother is a soda hog. So if my family were to buy the Sodastream how much would you say would be in the bottle? Is it enough to satisfy atleast four people or just one? The bottle you used looked a little small compared to the average 2liter of soda.
High brand name 2lt Pops go on sale in my area as low as .99 cents a bottle. Other brandnames almost as good go on for .79 cents. If I am not saving money I would not really bother buying this product. Recyling is not so bad as I used the banked up recylcing money for a big spring purchase for something needed around my place...like a bbq or picnic table
I like your videos, they are informative, and helpful. However, you say uhhh and ummm a lot, probably without realizing it. It's not as bad as some people do, but your work would benefit from consciously trying to refrain from it. Maybe a solid script for your vids would help. Not trying to be mean, just offering some constructive criticism.
The thing is I've seen the commercials and unless somethings changed they never once mention that you need to keep purchasing CO2's in order to make the soda. In the commercial they make it look like the pump takes its air from the room and that is an added cost then never make mention of. My understanding is that the cartrage is custom to the device and so the only place you can get it is from them. I just don't trust a company that would leave out such a long term expense out.
@LightenUpMcGraw You always need CO2 when making soda... Even the fountains at stores and restaurants have huge CO2 tanks in the back. It's the only practical way to carbonate water.
2 out of 5? you must be nuts, everyone should have one of these in their house. sodastream does not use any hfcs in their products, and the thing will eventually pay for its self in cost difference. those flavor containers will make 12 liters and cost as low as 5$. when your Co2 thing runs out, you just take it to the store and get a new one for 15$ for the trade in. I'd rate it 4/5 (due to lower caffeine content in cola flavor).
Wow, I do wanna get this is it battery powered or no? Also when you drink it do you get that nice fizzy feeling that one would get when they first take a drink of a pop they just opened?
This is perfect for folks trying to lose weight...as long as you shift to using the Natural Essence Flavors to make your own Sparkling water. I explains this better on my blog
well i added up if I were paying 50c a soda and the total amount of sodas i could have bought would have been 600 for all the supplies the maker and a selection of some flavorings.Like most stuff sold like this people aren't going to keep using it all the time like the new wave oven for example or stuff AS SEEN ON TV. Cool at first but ide rather stick to the name brand sodas i just have to pop a cap and have it perfectly mixed perfect carbonation and ice cold out of the fridge
not to mention you got to also buy their carbonators the ceapest i saw was 62 dollars or something so where is the saving not mention the machine which sells for $129.00 thats when u stop and think about it 6 sixpack from walmart will run you about 6.75 including taxes store brand of course so is the dollar you save on the soda flavor mix really worth it again 6 sixpack contains 36 cans and u get 33 cans from the flavor mix bottle infact you dont save you get more from the store
doesnt really save you money if fact you actually spend more on it. I drink cokes all the time first of all i went to check this out for myself over at their website site they claim that each soda flavor mix bottle makes up to 33 cans of coke and they sell each for 4.99 plus tax so thats like 5.50 including tax thats if they offer free shipping so where is the savings when i can go to the store like heb or walmart and buy a six pack for a dollar or a giant two litter store brand for $1.00
@ExtraWideSeal My guess would be you can but if you put the concentrate before the co2, you can get the nozzle dirty and would have to wipe it down alot. I thought the same thing because I would hate to mix the soda and it goes flat OR I was thinking if I had previously flat store bought soda and connecting it to this device to fill it with co2 again. XD
They make a energy drink now, So say a red bull cost 2$ a can. You get 50 uses out of a bottle of concentrate energy which cost 6$. So it pays for itself if you drink a lot energy drinks like I do. You can get them for about $100 at best buy, plus none of the concentrates contain high fructose corn syrup or aspartame, which is cool in itself.
I do see a monitary value here for someone like me who drinks 4-5 red bulls a day, every day. However, this is only a value if I can get red bull flavor that tastes like red bull.
The value proposition is unquantifiable in the sense that I don't have to lug home 2x 12-packs of seltzer water every time I go to the grocery store. Also, the reusable "green" nature of this product should count for something in your score... especially if you're called "greengear" eh?
Much efficient way to drink soda. Despite the cost, you save a lot of money if you are a big soda drinker like me. Uses no electricity at all plus it contains about 8g of sugar so it's healthier than soda. Just those soda syrup bottles alone can make about 12L of soda and it's cheaper too.
can you put the concentrate in the bottle before it gets inflused with the co2? then you wouldn't have to shake it to mix it up and i think it would probably mix it better as well.
@IamNotaThreat it says specifically it's for water only and to add the flavor afterwards...don't know what happens if you don't listen...not going to risk it lo
lol, more work for a lesser/same quality pop. I have a solution: just drink water. You will be much healthier. If you can't drink water without flavor then there is something very wrong with you.
@Sheqardi if you go to bed bath and beyond (if you have the store around u) they have flavors and the product and all.. i just bought it could of days ago and i like it its awesome!
not sure if anyone mentioned this, the ability to have any variety of soda at anytime is a big benefit to me. You never know what you might be in the mood for. When your in the mood for something your usually out of it at home. I can't stock my home with 6 different types of soda all the time. The energy drinks do save money which is not mentioned. I measure it at 1/3 the price of a redbull, and the energy drink is amazingly good.
For me the big thing was not having to lug bottles of carbonated water home from the store every week. With the Sodastream I drink about 2L a day and the only thing I really have to do is visit a local water shop for a CO2 refill once a month.
But I guess gas these days is cheap so there's no value prop there ... :D
@0Phantomcrest0 Internet. They ship you a new one along with a prepaid return box for your old canister. $8 - $9 shipping though - most economical to order multiple refills if you have multiple canisters.
@juggalettetillidie1 If you buy a soda a day, you've spent 365 dollars. If you buy this you pay 150 and then can spend the other 215 on booze or gas or computer games or whatever would make you happy.
@juggalettetillidie1 if you buy I bottle of pop for a dollar every day and there's 365 days a year thats 365.00 dollars a year when you can spend 120.00 dollars for machine and maybe 40 dollars for extra parts and only make one payment of 160.00 dollars for almost the entire year not to mention people throw away enough plastic soda bottles to wrap around the earth 3 times it's called thinking green......
@wangster76 well with three kids and a husband and an elderly mother and pets to take care of house payment two car payments cell phones cable internet and heat water gas electric I try to save as much money as possible....maybe someday when you grow up you'll learn about that stuff
@apriltheghost2009 Who said you have to take care of your mother because rest homes exist for a reason, also you dont need pets, and you dont need 3 kids because condoms exist, also you dont need cable because TV is shit. So maybe you should rethink your financial plans.
@wangster76 Wow. You're just a financial advisor, aren't you? How much would you charge me if I decide I want terrible advice from a forever alone introvert?
@wangster76 what the crap is wrong with you? your mother takes care of you, feed you, clean your shit, and when you grow up you want to throw her to someone else to take care of her? another fact, people actually need pets in their lives for the proven fact that it extends your life. you need to rethink your life before you become a grumpy old man with no kids to take you to the funeral house...oh wait, am i too late?
Soda bottles are 100% recyclable and you need to throw away those bottle's to.
Also, all soda from this thing are really disguising and the top of the bottle's are worthless because the water just runs out direct when you hold it upside down. Also the machine feels extremely cheap and worthless while using it. Coming from a guy who's mom got one yesterday. I hope she doesnt stop buying real soda because this one is disguising.
@vbgenechten Um... your cap and/or bottle are busted. Warranty. Are you carbonating properly ? Most folks don't. If the liquid leak is due to bottle damage - it won't carbonate properly - obviously.
Go to sams/costco and buy some name brand (ie coke) soda syrup - adds up to about $1/6pk. Assuming it's properly carbonated... you have, say, Coke. Simple as that.
PS: what is it disguising as ? An arcade game ? ;)
You didn't touch on the health benefits of the soda base. All of them are comparatively healthier then the 'original' soda they are mimicking. I did also want to point out that in our family, we will save the initial investment of the machine and bottles within a few months since we generally buy cans and not bottles. But good review other than that, I'd rate it at a 4 honestly :)
If your family drinks a lot of soda, you will recoup the initial cost of the machine in a few months. We are making soda for about 25-30 cents per liter with this machine. The taste is lighter than name brand sodas, more like a store brand soda which is what we mainly drink. They use no corn syrup in their soda flavors.
@hockeytofu101 You're probably not fully carbonating. It doesn't say "hit the button 3 times" it says "hit the button till you hear 3 loud buzzes" - alot of folks miss it - the instructions are crappy.
this product is sooo not worth it after 3 bottles of flat soda i finally got it to produce seltzer .... it made less than a gallon of seltze/soda and the carbonator was empty .. soo much for environmentally friendly... youl'd have to exchange carbonators at least once a month
@MrStevensonJack ur the pethetic twat ur 16 and also have a girlfriend to do it for you but you enjoy fucking urself coz u get more fun out fucking urself look if u aint go anthing better todo then go fuck ur girlfriend then
@MrStevensonJack you put WOULD sell them dick and IF THEY DIDNT WORK DICKHEADA listen yh okay all do they same but the 25 pound one is for poor people or people on a budget right i get it but DONT call me an idiot again coz i aint understand
@MrStevensonJack that the new ones aint outdated and acuattly no the others have new features like the fizz has a gas monitor and u can choose how fizzy you want it and so forth so no not all of em do the same thing

can you put the flavoring in the water before you put the co2 in it?
ExtraWideSeal 1 month ago
@ExtraWideSeal My guess would be you can but if you put the concentrate before the co2, you can get the nozzle dirty and would have to wipe it down alot. I thought the same thing because I would hate to mix the soda and it goes flat OR I was thinking if I had previously flat store bought soda and connecting it to this device to fill it with co2 again. XD
Chalino696 1 month ago
wats cool is the co2 everybody is fucked cuz i work at a paintball fiel and we got 3 tanks of co2 and i can re fill them up their haha fuckers....
ynds12 1 month ago
@ynds12 don't think this has been said yet but...
Haha fucker ! The tanks aren't refillable ! You can on the other hand retrofit it to use a 'standard' co2 tank. Which i might do, eventually...
McNerdius 4 weeks ago
They make a energy drink now, So say a red bull cost 2$ a can. You get 50 uses out of a bottle of concentrate energy which cost 6$. So it pays for itself if you drink a lot energy drinks like I do. You can get them for about $100 at best buy, plus none of the concentrates contain high fructose corn syrup or aspartame, which is cool in itself.

lava172 1 month ago 2
I do see a monitary value here for someone like me who drinks 4-5 red bulls a day, every day. However, this is only a value if I can get red bull flavor that tastes like red bull.
flaircat 1 month ago
@flaircat Tastes just like it.
ixTorquez 1 month ago
in norway this is eco-friendly because 0,5 liters soda costs about 15 kr (3$) and a sodastream with extra parts costs 400 kr (80$) so .. yeah
mhfuk 1 month ago
The value proposition is unquantifiable in the sense that I don't have to lug home 2x 12-packs of seltzer water every time I go to the grocery store. Also, the reusable "green" nature of this product should count for something in your score... especially if you're called "greengear" eh?

Much efficient way to drink soda. Despite the cost, you save a lot of money if you are a big soda drinker like me. Uses no electricity at all plus it contains about 8g of sugar so it's healthier than soda. Just those soda syrup bottles alone can make about 12L of soda and it's cheaper too.
lavamaster530 2 months ago
can you put the concentrate in the bottle before it gets inflused with the co2? then you wouldn't have to shake it to mix it up and i think it would probably mix it better as well.

not sure if anyone mentioned this, the ability to have any variety of soda at anytime is a big benefit to me.

@juggalettetillidie1 If you buy a soda a day, you've spent 365 dollars. If you buy this you pay 150 and then can spend the other 215 on booze or gas or computer games or whatever would make you happy.
geistkommando 5 months ago
@juggalettetillidie1 if you buy I bottle of pop for a dollar every day and there's 365 days a year thats 365.00 dollars a year when you can spend 120.00 dollars for machine and maybe 40 dollars for extra parts and only make one payment of 160.00 dollars for almost the entire year not to mention people throw away enough plastic soda bottles to wrap around the earth 3 times it's called thinking green......

@wangster76 well with three kids and a husband and an elderly mother and pets to take care of house payment two car payments cell phones cable internet and heat water gas electric I try to save as much money as possible....maybe someday when you grow up you'll learn about that stuff
apriltheghost2009 1 month ago
@apriltheghost2009 Who said you have to take care of your mother because rest homes exist for a reason, also you dont need pets, and you dont need 3 kids because condoms exist, also you dont need cable because TV is shit. So maybe you should rethink your financial plans.

@wangster76 what the crap is wrong with you? your mother takes care of you, feed you, clean your shit, and when you grow up you want to throw her to someone else to take care of her? another fact, people actually need pets in their lives for the proven fact that it extends your life. you need to rethink your life before you become a grumpy old man with no kids to take you to the funeral house...oh wait, am i too late?

xxxLABROxxx 1 month ago
@apriltheghost2009
I hope she doesnt stop buying real soda because this one is disguising.
vbgenechten 1 month ago
@vbgenechten Um... your cap and/or bottle are busted. Warranty. Are you carbonating properly ? Most folks don't. If the liquid leak is due to bottle damage - it won't carbonate properly - obviously.
Go to sams/costco and buy some name brand (ie coke) soda syrup - adds up to about $1/6pk. Assuming it's properly carbonated... you have, say, Coke. Simple as that.
PS: what is it disguising as ? An arcade game ? ;)
McNerdius 4 weeks ago
You didn't touch on the health benefits of the soda base. All of them are comparatively healthier then the 'original' soda they are mimicking. I did also want to point out that in our family, we will save the initial investment of the machine and bottles within a few months since we generally buy cans and not bottles. But good review other than that, I'd rate it at a 4 honestly :)
CarrieMcD329 5 months ago
does it taste like fountain soda ?
thanks
nicksocool78 5 months ago
If your family drinks a lot of soda, you will recoup the initial cost of the machine in a few months. We are making soda for about 25-30 cents per liter with this machine. The taste is lighter than name brand sodas, more like a store brand soda which is what we mainly drink. They use no corn syrup in their soda flavors.
alaskawood 5 months ago
it's ok :/ but the soda is kinda flat and tastes vary generic
hockeytofu101 5 months ago
@hockeytofu101 You're probably not fully carbonating. It doesn't say "hit the button 3 times" it says "hit the button till you hear 3 loud buzzes" - alot of folks miss it - the instructions are crappy.
