Come to think about it: Why don't birds use cars more, that could save a lot of energy for them. It should be fairly easy for them to fly up high and spot a car going in the right direction.

according to a short clip from cnn, (this might be in the suggestions above or to the left,) the driver of the car got out after he pulled into the parking lot to check if the bird was stuck. The starling was not mortally wounded in any way, and flew to a tree... so, although the driver was not acting with the birds' best interest in mind, there was no apparent harm done. so for those of you who feel personally insulted that such a seemingly cruel act has occured, chill

I wish that people would stop saying that this bird is a fledgling when it so clearly isn't. It's clinging there under its own volition. Do you really think that a fledgeling would be able to hold onto the car that long? Yes it has a loose feather but that's hardly abnormal. It has a full coat of feathers beyond that. I'm not sure what species it is but it looks very similar to a female brewer's blackbird. And no, it's not calling for a mother or begging for food. It's a bird. Birds are vocal.

Except it was a fledgling. A clear indication of this are the pink "lips" still visible at the corners of the birds beak.

Behavioral cues reveal that the little tyke isn't mature enough to be so alone, and there far from the protective watch and care of mom and pops, probably perished.

The fledgling state isn't in question. As a wildlife rehabilitator once upon a time, not so long ago, I have 100% confidence in this knowledge gleaned from hands on experience and heaps of research. Basic stuff.

The bird didn't fly away because it probably lacked the ability to fly at such high velocity, and likely didn't even think of it.

Fledgelings, if you are unaware, are baby birds who are fully feathered. They in the process of being taught how to hunt and avoid predators by parents. They don't feed themselves. His plumage gives it away.

yeah the bird was opening it's mouth to be fed. It was a fledgling bird. Waiting there for his mom an pop to come feed him. they will probably never find him now and he will surely die. Next time you find a fledgling in harms way please put it somewhere near buy like under a hedge bush or something so it's parents can call for it and find it. They depend on their parents fora few weeks as fledglings.
