As a Communist and a humanist, I believe in the free self-determination of ALL nations, which are defined culturally and by the people, so I regard the Chinese invasion of Tibet as wicked and opportunist, much like the imperialists they revile. Why aren't fellow Communists standing up for the rights of the Tibetan people to determine their OWN destiny? I am ashamed of my fellow Communists for their pandering to State propaganda, Mao did many great things, invading Tibet was NOT one of them.
This man has no idea of what he's talking about. Tibetan society had many problems, with which the Dalai Lama wanted to deal as he came of age, but the Chinese invasion was genocidal. Yes, China has brought some technological advancement to Tibet (which the DL acknowledges), but even now, Tibetans are imprisoned, tortured, executed for speaking critically of the Chinese government. There is no freedom of conscience; even possession of a photo of the Dalai Lama is a crime.
These same back watered Nations claimed the Roman Heritage and came up with euphenistic concepts such as the Dark Ages, as if they ever enjoyed enlightment!!!! My rant is to point out that we live in an habitually distorting of History society. It's like a really bad trend why do people who have never read world history to at least have a dimm paradim of what has happened dare to talk. Historica distortion, neglect and lack of accuracy are institutionalized in Many countries.
well everybody likes information, mostly, but people also have their own prejudices, whether their parents taught them or learned it from tv, there are so many angles of information that transform what people believe, and once these things cement themselves in peoples mind they become fact to those people, nobody is completely enlightened to every angle of everyones history, if you think you are then you are lying to yourself, its just human nature so get over that fact and you can move on
yes you are right even the language one speaks creates processing biases. Yet to grossly exagerate events and to disregard mayor historical events is not due to cultural or intellectual bias that is just pure distortion. And while reality is relative it does exist just or are you in the camp of those who dare nulify proven historical events as the Genocide carried on by the Nanzis an Islamic fundamentalist regime as Iran dares deny historical fact are you in that camp?
Horray for truth and yes it is true. Just because there was massive discontent and seemingly great oppression in the old soviet block. People can slander other forms of goverment. This reminds me of the Barbarian Hordes constantly thashing against Rome finally to disloge it from its foundation. After Rome was gone there was a void and the back water regions longed for its adminesterial prowess.
I think that this response from Raymond Lotta is somewhat problematic because it deals with the contradiction in a very one sided way. While I appreciate the defense of the Tibetan communists, Ray fails to ever mention that Tibet under the current capitalist China IS brutally oppressed, that it was the communist revolution in Tibet from the Tibetans themselves that merged China and Tibet, or the reactionary CIA role of the Dalai Lama. This response is just too undialetical and one-sided to help.
Dear Raymond Lotta, I think that we socialists in the U.S. need to learn from European socialists who have accepted that China is colonizing Tibet, and stopped using Tibet in an ideological academic struggle.
