this song is about the church of scientology...the phrases he speaks in the middle of the song are questions in the stress test...do you often sing and whistle just for fun, such like
Listen to this song while peaking on some good acid. It will send to to the land of sunshine. It's like a roller coaster of feeling enlightened then suddenly you feel like you're losing your mind.
@xXNuclearWarXx most of the lyrics are actually questions from the scientologist's Oxford capacity analyis test. He probably said they came from fortune cookies to avoid getting sued by the sue happy scientologists.
Faith no more is the meaniest, most ridiculously evil and sexyest band ever... angel dust has pretty scary shit in it. so if you like terror movies listen to faith no more, it´s as scary as it gets...
This (Angel Dust) was the very firs CD i bought when i was 12. I actually wanted it on cassette tape considering that I wasn't entirely sold on the whole CD's and their annoying tendency to skip, but I couldn't for the life of me find it on cassette so i gave in and got it on CD. Only problem was I didn't own a CD player at the time. I guess you can say that I REALLY wanted it :)
They're both completely different albums, in a way.
I guess maybe Mike Patton had more of an influence on Angel Dust than what he did on The Real Thing. I know that Jim didn't do too much in Angel Dust. Personally, I think Angel Dust is the superior album. I mean, it's my favourite FNM album, and one of my two favourite albums of all time (My other being Mr. Bungle's 'Disco Volante').
Real Thing has Zombie Eaters, but still has a few "samey" tunes. I like that each member (except Puffy) abstains from playing on one song or another on that album.
Angel Dust is artistically superior, better produced and is fueled by 'Caffeine'. Instant win.
Its ridiculous how good this shit is....really. Its like the really good cocaine that doesn't mess up your throat and nasal passages...just smooth with a great pay off.
So I happened upon this song by good fortune. I am unsure whether I like this song or just like certain things about it. Either way, I think I am agreed upon the fact that it took talent to make this.
@ingitvoninglesworth I recently got a fortune cookie that said "This Fortune Cookie has been sitting next to the Washing Machine for 3 Weeks." I threw it away....
@Simonet25 them not getting success was a good thing they could have had it after they released real thing they were going to blow up. Patton made this album so commercially unfriendly so they didnt become famous also this album sounds more like a mr.bungle album
@akira515 Me thinks checking out some Mr. Bungle is next on my list! Well they did some commercially viable covers everyone equal or better than the original. I don't know how many times Angeldust was the soundtrack for the road trips back and forth from college and the occasional weekend Trip...great fuckin' memories!
I like this song, and I might get shit for this, but I'll say it anyway, listening to this song, the one thing that comes to mind is Mushroomhead, specifically the earlier material.
@rawsheep I remember Patton mentioning that in an article. The entire CD seems to have a story behind it (caffeine~he stayed up for 3 nights, Be Aggressive~his dad was a coach and "he always wanted to win, etc). A true masterpiece.
This is weird, I saw the Download special on VH1 Classic and when they did this song, I thought it was annoying bullshit. But now I that I heard the studio version, it's really good! I like it!
this album was so far ahead of its time. I think it scared the hell out of people when it came out. turn on any hard rock station today and you'll hear this album in practically every song, but nobody even comes close. there has been nothing like it before or since.
@bitbeats333 I SO agree. The 'darkness' of this album was (and is still!) just flat-out disturbing. And the brilliance is undeniable, unless you're musically brain-dead.
I wear it all out in my head for a week or two, unable to shake the beautiful, haunting music from my mind, and then I 'go away' from it for a few months... and then I come back. Invariably.
This album is like delicious, fattening food, or maybe a wicked drug like heroin. I know I'm hopelessly hooked. Rehab hasn't helped. =)
@MsDeandrea Actually, Epic wasn't on this album, it was on The Real Thing which was the album before Angel Dust. That being said, both albums are equally epic ;)
@bitbeats333 It was a lot different from The Real Thing. Much more mature and "Mike" influenced. One of my favorite albums of the 90s. The best decade in music.
I was at a Chinese buffet for lunch today in Jersey, not far from the shore. No matter how much I've loaded up on all the endless seafood & spicy goodness, I always HAVE to grab my fortune cookie (and I superstitiously eat a small piece so it will come true =). My fortune today said "you are headed for a land of sunshine" (honest), and as soon as I got home from my awesome camping & shore trip weekend... I had to hear this song. Best FNM album, EVER.
@runthemachine Most of the lyrics are taken from fortune cookies.Do you often sing or whistle just for fun? Do you feel sometimes age is against you? and Does emotional music have quite an effect on you? are taken from the Oxford capacity personality test,Patton wrote this and Caffeine while he was doing a sleep deprivation experiment on himself.
@tossingmidgetsforfun Interesting info. FNM is coming to Philly (I live right across the River) on July 3rd, to the Mann Center, for one of just a handful of North American dates.
Faith No More went down the tubes (for me at least) after they kicked Jim Martin out of the band. His muscular rhythm guitar as evidenced on this album was an indispensable ingredient of their sound.
I completely disagree, While I think Angel Dust was their best album, Martin does very little in this album (self admitted that he had no idea what to play to keep up with the others). They started going in many directions in this album, and Jim was kicked out because he wanted nothing to do with it.
