More like a Revelation mark of the beast society prophesied in the bible. A place were people are control by the NWO/Illuminati. Their are no real human bonds, lawlessness & sexual immorality is prevalent, and only the elite have a say in society.

The result isn't "both scary and empty", the result is a Utopia, or at least a Dystopia.

But for the inhabitant of the Brave New World, it's always Utopia. I think the book is actually much deeper than you give it credit. It's not bashing consumerism, it's just exposing the conservative fear innate in people to embrace this change. The future Utopia might look scary to us, but it's only because we're in the present. Likewise, people a hundred years ago would be terrified of modern society.
