ps maybe thatswhy greg won umptynine gold gloves as well cause he didn't do all that siily cartwheel twirling with his back leg and had great control . good hypothesis at least.
crazy mechanics not textbook at all. he hardly swings his back leg at all.its like a littltle bunny hop follow thru . lol tells me two things most pitching coaches have a good line of bull shit when the preach textbook mechanics. quackery ? two this was good enough to win 300+ in the big leagues.
Maddux not the tallest guy around. Not the hardest throwing guy around but definitely the best pitcher of the 90's. Much better PITCHER than Roger Clemens
@CunniJA2 They would have been tested far more in the later 90s than they were in the National League. Their legacy has to be judged with that in mind.
I've had the privilege of watching him pitch live during his dominate 90's years, it was an honor to have him on my team. He deserves to own number 31. Thanks Mad Dog!
I had the pleasure and honor of seeing Mad Dog pitch four lives (live). He won every time. I don't know if that was a coincidence or not. (It wasn't).
@sjgiants11 He was always a "pitcher" rather than a "thrower"; excellent mechanics and pinpoint control. May be among the last of the 300 club; nobody knows how to pitch like this anymore, there are too many middle relief "specialists" and 5 man rotations.
I agree. I'd rather throw confusing, hard-to-hit pitches rather than just being as fast as possible. Hell, Tim Wakefield throws like 60 MPH and has made a career out of it.

Maddux would have had no problem in the AL. The only difference is that he gets a DH.

Maddux showed us that baseball is a thinking man's sport. I am fully convinced he could have played into his 50's with his style of the pitch
