Good trucks. The 2.0 was not the best of the bunch, which is weird considering it is derived from the tough 2.3. I have been driving my 2.3 every day for 13 years with no major problems. But my gosh. It was hard to get used to the slowness after only driving V8's before that.
Dude, what state do you live in? Because that Ranger is in really good shape from what I could see body wise. You can't find one that old around here that's not rotted to hell or missing a box because of the road salt in the winter.
@wagner59270 That's good. The old girl is safe there. There's ONE around here I see for sale every summer that looks in really good condition. But so far I don't see many people biting at it. They're either not interesting in it because it's two wheel drive and has a four cylinder in it, or the person is asking an insane price for it. It's red from what I could see.

hey wayne, i have a question for you, and for anyone else that wants to answer. i have an 87 ranger, it's an automatic. when the summer comes i want to swap in a 302 and a 5 speed. my dad says its gonna be too much trouble to put in the 5 speed because of all the clutch linkages and whatnot. u got any idea how much trouble would actually be? like have u ever swapped a car from auto to stick?
@dilauroj94 well it can be done if you got the parts and the time. my bro and i had two 93 eclipes and one ran good but the auto tranny was shot but the other had a knock in the engine but the 5 speed tranny was good so we took the car that needed the least amount of body work and put the good engine and made the mods to put the 5 speed tranny in it and i must say i would never do it again if i didnt have to lol. but really its all about what you want to do with you truck. i hope this helped you
@87firebirdformula@wagner59270 thanks guys. i didnt know about the hydraulic thing, that sounds a lot easier from what ive read online now about hydraulic clutches. wayne what they said over at the ranger station was u could sit the motor in there with mustang convertible mounts, they are different for some reason. and 87firebirdformula, i plan on doing a lot of work to the truck. its gonna be a summer project.
@dilauroj94 well its very doable but difficult all the same, the linkages are the least of your problems because you can use a hydraulic clutch however placing a 302 in a ranger will be the biggest trouble, they fit well but theres alot of fabrication to do before it can be bolted up
@dilauroj94 ..I personally think that a standard is worth the extra work/trouble any day.Automatic's were made for woman and old people..How old is your dad?..lol..It really wont be that much more trouble if you can find a donor truck pretty cheap.Which shouldn't be a problem to find anywhere in America or Canada.
