12ax7s work great in this for some reason, turn the highs off or less then 9 o'clock n' mids half-2o'clock n bass maybe half n you got a killer freakin sound. I got one of these (cuz a buddy has one) and use it thruogh a vintage Standel I got (wish it was tube but sounds good enough to not need 'em!) after selling my plexi clone... :( someone shoot me... I'm happy though, couldn't use fx through a plexi anyway,, may build another though.

Hi, I just bought one of these for the low gain possibilities and assume I will have to upgrade the tubes. Are you willing to reveal the modifications you've made? Upgrades of circuit components? Other?
