I enjoyed the vid lots! thnx. what a beautiful track. i thought the colour bars with changing palettes was super well chosen + not to mention a nice idea!
another note: i saw NO once in chicago, early 90s. this was their last song, and just as it was starting, hooky leaned into the microphone and simply said "ian curtis". and i lost it. i think the whole theater lost it. powerful stuff.
I love the very last lyric, "you've caught me at a bad time, so why do you just piss off"! It really marked NO coming into their own,...with the electronic instrumentation coming more to the fore... Even though it's still melancholic it sounds more NO than JD."
but one small addition I been thinking about lately,it must have been really horrid for Ian,but imagine someone coming to you saying "Ian's dead",must have shattered them!Lot of guts for them to carry on
I love the very last lyric, "you've caught me at a bad time, so why do you just piss off"! It really marked NO coming into their own, (by that I mean the album its from) with the electronic instrumentation coming more to the fore. Also with Barney starting to care less if the lyrics sounded poetic enough or not. Even though it's still melancholic it sounds more NO than JD.
Agree with Canuck21 - New Order have so many great tracks on Movement ,Power Corruption and Lies and Low Life but people only remember Blue Monday and True Faith,i suppose that's the way they wanted it though, never do interviews and let the music do the talking, think Hooky was naffed off that The Perfect Kiss video was never aired, nearly 10 mins of brilliance just wasted imo
Having been a bit of a fan of New Order for the last 20 years, I was amazed to hear this song for the first time last night whilst watching the film Bronson. I inially thought it was a Kraftwerk piece I'd never heard before. Brilliant song.
Ok i agree. The idea is an experienced idea done with great taste for choice of song. A subliminal confederate flag IS inserted in the color concert. I don't know ! Did you?!?
@realitybites I know. Bless you for this beautiful thing. Tears, laughter at once. And I loved first quarter color class in design school, you little bastard. Thank you!
I keep coming back to this video...been listening to this song for a long time...the color palettes remind me of the record sleeve (just a small part of the sleeve because the rose painting is what made up the rest)...this video is in my playlist and I listen to it over and over...just ty for posting...tyvm

This in an incredible song and thank you very much for putting it up on Youtube. It does bring back the feelings of my teen age years. Not a worry in the world.....
This is a very beautiful and emotional song. It has authenticness, something that few melancholic songs have.
There are so many other great New Order songs that I can't call this their best, simply for that reason. But it is certainly one of their most beautiful
I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face. I am ashamed to say that I had forgotten all about this song. This song brings back so many memories of past times.Thank you realitybites for posting this one!!!!!!
I have just posted that 'The Perfect Kiss' is my favourite New Order song of all time. But then there's this, and then there's 'Regret' and then there's 'Lonesome Tonight' the list goes on & on!! Damn you YouTube, damn you!!
i'm 15 again, taking a train passing a new city, emerging from the dark of the woods.. i've travelled still since the early 80's, thank you , keep on moving on folks!
This is best listened to in a totally dark room with the volume up full .....mydantube and oldschoolsuit will know what I'm on about. Sheer fucking class ....Christ, I'm old ....
Hi, in Germany it's called "Triola" or "Blasharmonika". I think the english translate is "Mouth Piano". If you want, check out my video from New Order - Your Silent Face at 00:46 , you can see this instrument.
Even my dad likes this song, I was listening to it and he said "I like that more than anything youve played all night" pretty cool coming from a 67 year old.
new order, the best band of the world, thanks for the song , again again again again again again again again again .......underfulllll man ...I love this band this muzik
joder creo ke nunca habia escuchado esta cancion de new order y eso que tengo la discografia...mu buena por cierto ese xilofono o lo ke sea me encanta!!
If Ian Curtis was alive, there would be no New Order and this song would never have been released and I for one think that would be a shame because I absolutely LOVE this song. You could also forget about "Temptation", my second favourite song of all time after "Ceremony". I like Curtis, but I'm not sure that I want to trade these wonderful New Order songs.
I would trade the songs to have Ian back. Think about what your saying there. Look I love New Order as well. Probably more so than Joy Division, but listen to a song like "Ceremony" and think about what an amazing direction they would've gone in.
If JD could produce songs with the same calibre as "Ceremony" for the next 2 albums, then yes I'd trade, but that's a big IF. Except for "Ceremony", my top 5 songs are from New Order and on top of that, I think NO's "7 of "Ceremony" is almost perfect, not even Ian vocal could make it better for me.
I like JD's music better than New Order, but I think that it's good that Joy Division sort of had a short run, because sometimes good things should be short and not dragged out. I mean look at bands like Van Halen and the Police. They've been around so long and now they're doing all of these reunion shows, trying to recreate their past work. I wish JD would have stayed around a bit longer, but they might not have been as renown as they are today if they had a longer career.
Fantastic choice of song & your visuals are a great idea. Very 'Factory Records style'. Thanks for posting. This song put a tear in my eye...1987 again...
