this is my first time doing this i planted jarrahdale pumpkins and some butternut and watermelon . mostly jarrahdale green ones. well the plants are shooting out alot reallly far like into each other and out everywhere do i thin it. when should i think it and what do i cut off because there is not as many pumkins in the middle, not as much as the shoots that are coming out the sides.
@imawesome89100 They will intertwine, and some people do thin them out. You can research extension publications for recommend distances but if you have the fertility you may be okay. We space ours about 5 feet apart. Some people put more distance, depends if you want size our quantity. The tricky thing will be you probably have a whole bunch of variable maturity dates there? Help?
@MaizeValleyWinery the only problem is water, i only use drippers i have about 6 rows about 50 meters long. so only the main plants get water, and the shoots don't , but it does seem to be growing really fast. and now i just found powdery mildew on some leafs and now its spreading =( im going to spray it quick i just hope it works
@imawesome89100 Ur cool on the water you only need to water the main plant. Drippers should be fine, if you can inject some liquid nutrient as a plant food, pumpkins need a lot, especially potash after they get bigger phosphorus when younger. Stay on that spray, If you have high humidity like we do it can spread like fire overnight. Sodium Bi-Carb is very effective at stopping what you have but does not provide residudal, Bravo good for that but you have to be sure and penetrate canopy.
hello, im a first timer gardener and i just made a horrible mistake by planting my pumpkin seed about 5 inches deep =( instead of 1 inches. will these seeds grow? do i have to replant the seed?
@edzryxq Probably, that is really deep. However there is an outside chance they might come up if the soil is a really lose sandy. Depending upon moisture and heat they should come up in about a week. but I am not sure with that depth. We usually only put ours in about 1- 1.5 inches. Good Luck! :-)
That is an on-going process throughout the year. I will post and comment as we go. We do a burn down first at least three days before planting. Check out my corn maze weed control vid. post for that, same treatment.
My father-in-law did a pre-emergence/post plant weed control spray Not sure what he put down, Will check.
Per bugs and disease we use a variety of crop protection products throughout the year depending upon the pressure and the particular problem, weather etc.
that place is my dream! lol when im older i want to have a HUGE vinyard and pumpkin patch lol

Weeds
1 pint Dual/ac.
1 pint /ac Command 3ME
Be sure to use 3ME the EC is very volitle can cause drift problems
Bugs, depends upon the pest. Pretty much what is avaliable per the lable.
