But one could easily make an argument for the necessity of using defensive aggression in order to smooth basic social tensions, so I'm certainly not saying anything concrete.

But it doesn't matter if it's a defensive or offensive word. If someone is calling you one, the result is the same, you've been insulted. Respond accordingly.

I can't thank you ENOUGH for posting this. :) When I first heard the term "douche" or "douche bag", I was SO confused, as I had only taken French recently, and the term "douche" means "shower" (You seem to know this, I don't mean to patronize).
