  • Great version of Hey Joe. If you like this listen to "I've Been Around Too Long" also by The Marmalade. Very similar - also excellent.

  • Good cover

  • Its a gas listening to all these different versions of Hey Joe on youtube!

  • fucking briliant !!! I love it !!!

  • A good version i saw marmalade at the Cavendish club in Blackburn in the sixties,a good live group

  • fever tree and ant trip ceremony do a pretty good version as well

  • Shoot the bitch one more time for me, Joe!!!

  • pretty good

  • sirPercy. u mean good stdio or good live band . u didnt elaborate!

  • @tommieparch Both. check out eg Reflections(recording)/Empty Bottles/Can You Help Me/Baby Make It Soon/I See The Rain - all on youtube - but eveyone has an opinion.

Personally, I think Clapton is a tad overated and not in the same class as Beck/Knopfler/Hendrix/Marvin - but there you go. By the way, I seem to remember Hendrix mentioned he liked this when he complimented I See The Rain - he saw them play it live at the Marquee Club London

    regards

  • @SirPercyBlakeney listened 2 all the songs u listed, & yeah i agree its a great band. i think sir paul helped out on reflections , like on / no matter what/. all i said was the guitar player wasnt up to par with hendrix & u practicly said the same thing in ur 2nd comment. ur 1st comment seem to imply marmalade was better? i wonder f we r on the same page?

  • @tommieparch probably not - probably different book. i thought you were implying the guitar player had limited ability, which is far from the truth. By the way, Sir Paul had nothing to do with "Reflections", it's a myth - Reflections was cowritten, arranged and produced by the guitar player we are debating. regards

  • @SirPercyBlakeney i never said the guitar was bad, just limited. i love this band. put jimmy page on guitar & wed b mentioning thm in the same catagory as hendrix& sabbath .regards

  • @tommieparch Junior Campbell co-wrote Reflections with Thomas McAleese (Ford). The guitar solo Junior played in the song was unique and actually very praised at the time. What he was playing for the solo was the melodic theme from Reflections BACKWARDS. Combine that with the fact that he was playing a right-hand strung guitar..... Upside down and backwards is none too shabby.

  • @Peachteatube very useful info. gotta get some of my 45s and listen 2 find that backwards!, how did you know these things? good stuff!

  • @tommieparch I am the creator of the Marmalade Dean Ford facebook group. Members include former bandmates, friends, DJs, ex-wives of bandmates, childhood friends, etc. We get info from the net, however I have spoken to Dean on the phone and corresponded by mail. The solo in Reflections by Junior is rather famous for its circumstances so there is no magic to my knowledge there. Junior is still quite famous in the UK and had a long run with music for Thomas The Tank Engine.

  • good cover, if i never heard hendrix version i would of called this a classic. i like the bass better here , but the guitar player is very limited .thanx

  • @tommieparch you obviously never saw them live!

  • Deep Purple did an excellent job with this song .

  • Wow, this is a find! I've always loved the Hendrix version of this, and I've always loved listening to Marmalade records. But I didn't realise they had done this. What a great quality they add to the song with their superb harmoising backing vocals. I really am impressed with this. The lead guitar breaks and slightly harder-edged lead vocals and rockier treatment all work well in my opinion, and having heard it I would like to hear more. I'm now going to search out other work like this.

  • @Galericulus I know what you mean, i found some little nuggets too - check out "Can You Help Me" & "Empty Bottles"" by the Marms on ytube regards R

  • @rodballantyne Hi. Thanks for that tip. These are seriously good tracks, all 8 minutes plus of "Can you help me" and all. Interestingly, I had come across the title of "Empty bottles" earlier today, but hadn't heard it. Something else I found today was a reference to a 1972 album that at least one of these tracks was on. I must find that album and get a copy. Thanks for your help here. I always thought the Kinks the most grievously underrated group, until now. But Marmalade also are...

  • @Galericulus It's a pleasure

I have found out that both these tracks are possibly the final two recorded by the original band - and also, BOTH of them are on "Marmalade" - "the ultimate collection" which i can see are available on Amazon - i agree, it is amazing they are not more highly regarded. regards

  • @rodballantyne Hi and thanks yet again. I will have to acquire that album. This exchange with you has been a real pleasure. I have now added this track "Hey Joe" as one of my favourites. One of my best recent finds. All the best.

  • an oldie and good

  • PLEASE join the Dean Ford Singer/Songwriter Facebook group to get our #s up! We're hoping Dean will do a live chat. Listen to Reflections of my Life and remember what a great Singer/Songwriter he is. Jimi Hendricks said he had the best song of 1967.

  • @Peachteatube

Is Jimi Hendricks any relation to Jimi Hendrix ?

  • @QueenReigns1 smartie pants. I'm old; give my feeble mind a break. :-) Did you join the group?

  • The Creation do a great version too!!

  • I like it. Thanks for posting.

  • A very well crafted version.

  • they were a great live band

  • muy buena versión y excelente album por lo demás, saludos

  • Nice and easy version of this classic. Hendrix version is the non plus utra of this song. Congratulations and thanks for the memories...

  • Where are all the knowledgeable marmalade fans this was a B side of one of their big hits on 45, give me some help here, please, I had the single. Think it might have been Oh bla de

  • It was "Lovin' Things" - summer '68

  • thanks for the feed back

ignatiousbrogan, I have lost all my singles from the 60`s and 70`s, but I have not lost the appitite for good music

    Thanks

  • Me neither.

    This is pretty good.

Has the poster ever thought about adding all the other versions?

Right off the top of my head, I thought of

    Love,the Leaves, and Tim Buckley.

  • I've posted Music Machines version. I also have it by Hendrix, The Byrds, The Leaves, Tim Rose, Love, Shadows of Knight, Creation. I think that's all, might be wrong.

  • Deep Purple covers this song on their album called Shades of Deep Purple.

  • @hawkmoon03111951-- Fever Tree

  • @witchman67 to jest bez uwag

  • Hendrix would have been proud!

  • You've got it! Righteous! love it.

  • your right..... the marmalade were always underated the baritone guitar was a huge sound in the marquis

    love them

  • @TheFrozenLads this was recorded as a tribute to Jimi and a thank you for voting our song "I see the rain" his fav song of 1968

    Alan Drummer Marmalde 1967-1978

  • @althemainman2474

    Me thinks, bullshit, stickman

chekout " Hey Joe" on Wikipedia - see what your lead guitar player said at the time

  • Not bad! Not bad at all...Never knew the Marmalade covered this...Cheer's Graham...
