  • 73 is the last steam loco made for the WP&Y (in 1948).

The Chinese built "narrow gauge" steam locos as late as 1988. Many other builders built them into the early 1960's

In 2010 the 73 & 69 were working through from Skagway to the Canadian border at Frasier, BC.

The WP&Y has two steam locos and 20 diesels.....

  • Great video, it really captures the spirit of steam.

  • at midwest central railroad in southeastern iowa they have a white pass caboose that they bought from them

  • They White Pass and Yukons #73 seen in this video was the last Narrow Gauge steam engine ever made. Also you can get departure times from there webite

  • Now 73 the last narrow gauge engine ever made for the WP&Y or THE VERY LAST narrow gauge engine EVER made.

  • They don't tell you that they change to a diesel electric locomotive just outside Skagway.

  • The White Pass Railroad has 2 steam engines and i believe up to 5 or 6 diesels and the line travels to Whitehorse in Canadas Yukon Territory

  • When do they run the steam trains ? I tried to go on the train ride but no steam only Diesels. They said that they only use the steam to pull the diesels outn for runs?

  • That must be awesome going thru the Yukon on a train ride. Especially pulled by a steam locomotive!
