you guys know that you can cut a chunk of meat off of those fish and put them on your hook and they are SUPER good bait for rainbow trout. they are where I live anyway
I caught one of these a while ago same size I always release my fish except that one everyone should kill these little fuckers because they eat the shit out of all the other fish in the entire fucking river especially young salmon smolts so I knew that although I felt like shit for killing the poor thing I saved a hell of a lot more fish
@cyborg006 Wish i got a picture of it. Im sure I will get another one soon and will have a camera next time. Oh and thanks, I forgot i was on my bands channel.
hey would one of these pikeminnows eat stuff used for trout like crappie jigs ,power worms and castmasters , o yea what about power bait, can any one fill me in
the pike minnow is a bottom feader so in that case no i dont think you would have luck with trout bait
i cought a pike minnow about 2 or three times the size of that one i used a salmon pole to get it in and used trout roe as bait there was abput 4 of them right at the bottom under the dock at lake almanor but that was about 2 or three years ago good luck fishing
i caught a 40 striper using a squaw fish that big near sac state sweet vid keep catching more fish n put up more vids o0o yea kill those pike minnows cause they're eat everything in river causing a population drop on all fishes
The squawfish (no named pikeminnow to be P.C.) is one of the only native fish left in the valley. It should be treated well. The stripers aren't native and, in my opinion, they aren't worth keeping around. The squawfish can get up to 30 pounds! It's actually a giant predatory minnow that only lives in California. It's special. Sad no one knows about it.
Generally speaking the Howe and Watt section of the American River has many of these. Large earthworms, size 7/0 hooks, and a carolina rig is all you need. There may be other ways to catch them, but this method generally worked for me in the past.
Squawfish is the original name. It was an important food for the Indians. They tried to force a name change because 'squaw' is supposed to be politically incorrect, though I don't think any real Indians were too concerned. Neat fish.
You're probably right. I will have to remember that next time I go fishing there.

Caught a pike minnow today in a small creek in the central valley of California on a buzz bait. It was about 2ft long and more of a silver color.
