This core i7 processors can be slow now but that's obvious the reason is that it's a new technology and the actual games or programs does'nt take advantange of it, wait one more year and all the programs and games will be optimized for it and it's gonna be more faster than the core 2 quad and core 2 duo.

lakomcl is right. i googled i7 vs qx9770. :\ i7 is not IDEAL for gaming. sure it can run games just as well, but for a new cpu with all this awesome hype, we aren't even seeing a 25% increase in performance for 'GAMING'. there is a huge increase in other things such as rendering, encoding and etc.

maybe the games just aren't as CPU centered, could be the graphics that set the limit. and still, how much did you expect. so yeah you get better gaming performance than the qx9770, it's cheaper, and you get wayy better performance in rendering and stuff.. seems like a pretty win-win situation to me!

i7 can run games but in some games you will not get the performance that youl get whit QX9770, i7 is cheaper but so its the performance like that guy manched it is more for server use.:)

Some early articles suggested that i7's design is not ideal for gaming performance. In a test done on leaked hardware, a Core i7 940 compared to a QX9770 shows the Core i7 is slower than Yorkfield clock for clock in 2 while being faster in the other two. The difference in all cases is small, and is due to the significantly smaller sized L2 cache on the processor cores, with each core able to access its own 256 kB of L2 cache.

i would like to see the site you have got this info from. the only thing you have right is that the new core i7 has a large amount of l3 cache.

fact: l3 cache is just as fast as l3 cache

the point of l3 cache is to be shared. unlike the core 2 duo were the l2 cache of 8mb was split up to 2mb per core only that core that had the cache could use that cache.

Intel rocks much harder by now. But, Phenom 2 CPU's will launch on January 2009 - even better overclocking performance than Core i7/C2Q Extremes if rumors are right.

sweet. Probably wont buy the Phenom 2 though. I always been afraid to overclock things. Im just afraid that i could potentionaly break a VERY expensive piece of hardware. I'll just stick with the stock clocked versions.
