  • You are amazing! Thanks for uploading this video! Have been installing and uninstalling programs to use for backing up Baby DVDs. Keep on uploading videos! :D

  • I did this put the video is choppy, what did I do wrong?

  • @mudersville If you tried copying a copy protected movie DVD, then that is the reason. This method is not for copying movies or copy protected materials. For that see my other videos on how to copy movies using RipIt.

  • @matiasbilbao Ah right thanks. I'll check that video out.

  • this can work for movies right

  • @shock325ify Not most movie DVD's. For that watch my other video about using RipIt to do that.

  • @shock325ify This is best used to backup your software DVD's, clone drives, duplicate volumes, etc...

  • thanks for the tutorial. very helpful!

  • @TheZizzer83 You are very welcome. Glad you liked.

  • Sorry if this has already been explained (I couldn't find it skimming the comments) but do you have any idea why the result burned DVD is not playing correctly? The first minute is okay, but then the video is choppy, pixelated, and freezes, and the audio is choppy as well. I'm using blank DVD+Rs. Maybe it's just a fluke..?

Awesome tutorial by the way! Great trick to know about, and you made it very easy to follow.

  • @theleadenxeyed If the DVD you are trying to copy is an encrypted movie then you will have all sorts of play back issues. If you are looking to copy your collection of DVD's for personal use please see the videos I made for RipIt software. It is awesome and very easy to use.

Disk Utility does not circumnavigate the encryption issues but it is great for making backup copies of your software or making duplicates or clones of your hard drives for archiving.

  • Thanks!

  • TO ALL MACs LOOKING FOR A PROGRAM TO BURN DVDs: USE AIMERSOFT VIDEO CONVERTER ULTIMATE (fast, video quality perfect, plays on ALL DVD PLAYERS)

    Video_Converter_Ultimate_v_1.5.1_[K[racked (piratebay torrent)

  • But after making a copy of your DVD how to you get it into itunes?

  • @relaxnow You don't. If you are looking to copy your movie DVD's and add them to iTunes take a look at my tutorial for using Ripit software. The software is easy and can add the movie directly to iTunes if you wish.

  • 2:55

When i was doing this i got to that step but after it finished creating the image it said that there was an error. Then i tried to do it gain but it got stuck almost before it ended and said to repair disk but it didnt let me click on repair.

Do you know what i did wrong?

  • @VICIOUSxSCOPEZ If the DVD you were bring to copy is am encrypted movie DVD then this would explain the error. Otherwise, I have had issues in the past where I found the culprit to be a problematic DVD writer.

  • Yo have a mac pro huh?

  • @boxen76 Yep. I have had it for almost 6 years and it still rocks. I have upgraded all sorts of things. SSD for startup volume. Moved my home folder to a separate volume using an Apple raid card (8TB) plus have the Time Machine running internally. The thing is bullet proof.

  • @matiasbilbao bullet proof huh? wana test that out? JK lol thanks for the video its so clean and simple!

  • Dude ur so awesome man they didn't tell me this shit at the apple store. THX A MILLION :D

  • @zambelimama I'm glad it helped. Thank you for the feedback

  • @MrPlasticbagman12 . You are making me blush. Thank you very much for the kind words and feedback. I will try to hold on to what little is left of my Venezuelan accent as long as possible !

  • @matiasbilbao I ain't fucking gay, I just really want an accent like that, I am a married man with 2 kids! lol But seriously, thanks! :)

  • @MrPlasticbagman12 --- LMFAO. Wasn't flirting. ROTFL. No need to be concerned Simply saying thank you for the words and feedback and responding in kind to your post. Thanks again and glad the video helped.

  • @matiasbilbao Lol, welcome! :)

  • This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you VERY MUCH. You're awesome.

  • Thanks, your instructions are simple and easy to follow. However, it doesn't seem to work. It says it cannot image non data (audio) cd. I'm trying to copy foreign language cd to use (I'm an instructor) Any advice on how I can copy the French cd's?

  • @fatlifat Some CD's and DVD's are DRM protected and you will not be able to copy them.

  • Comment removed

  • i followed you exactly but when i went to burn it said disk unavailible to burn

  • @kittynamedkitty If you have dual CD/DVD trays you may need to insert the blank disc in the other tray. Alternatively you may have the wrong type of blank disc (i.e. DVD-R instead of DVD+R). The last scenario is a faulty disc or CD/DVD reader

  • thanks soo much that was soo helpfull

  • PLEASE HELP. im getting an error its saying. Unable to create "name of movie". (input/output error) . im doing exactly as you say but it isnt creating the image

  • @romerojahaira143 Most movie DVD's are copy protected. Check out my video on YouTube on how to copy movies using Ripit

  • @donaldjpowell925 . Though I am glad that you enjoyed the video, I don't condone the duplication of copyright protected material. Please consider the fact that it IS stealing and that it is a federal crime to duplicate movies for sale. It is legal to copy your own movies (even if they are protected) as long as you purchased them yourself and they are not for distribution. Stay tuned for more video coming soon.

  • @matiasbilbao oh shut up

  • Oo thanks soo much. Help me a lot!! @_defdjrave

  • great.

  • WOW! this is sooo god! im so glad you made this vid. But i think i'ts werd that this is possible with dvds that got protecrion! :D but tank you anny way! i sub, and liked!

  • @SReice what do u do when it requests for a donation?

  • Nicely explained, good screen capture, easy to follow as you provided step by step.

Keep posting little tips, I am a newbee to MAC and am loving it.n Lots of great advise as how to.

  • @dcovnton101 Thank you for the compliment. I will posting many new videos. Feel free to ask for specific videos. I cannot make them all but I will do my best. Simply send me a message with a topic or question and I will consider it for a future video.

  • Thanks, this video is very great. Just one question, if i want to burn a movie to a cd and the .cdr file is 7,18 GB and my blank dvd is 4.7 GB. How can i fix it?

  • @firering095 You cannot burn the .cdr if it exceeds the size of the media. Your best solution is to rip the movie using VLC+handbrake or RipIt and transfer the ripped movie to a DVD. Otherwise, you can use a dual layer DVD to burn up to 8.5GB to a single disc. It requires of course a dual DVD burner (DVD-DL). I recommend ripping the file and burning on a DVD if you simply want to play on a computer or add to iTunes/ipod/iPhone/etc...

  • i want the movie on my ipod touch.. but i need it compressed size (Smaller) so it doesnt take up all my space. where you said to click 'Master DVD/CD' it also has an option saying 'Compress' will that solve my problem? Eg. will i be say 700Mb-1.5GB instead of 4.29GB?

    Thanks

  • @MichaelMcMahon95 YOu must use a program called Handbrake along with VLC (both free) in order to do that on a MAC. You can also use a program called RipIt (shareware) to do this. It is much easier and automatically add the movies to iTunes for syncing to your mobile devices. I have a tutorial on RipIt here on you tube. Check out my channel under Mac OS X utilities called "Transfer movies from DVD's to iTunes on your Mac".

  • This is the best DVD burn tutorial on Youtube. I subbed. You should definitely do more tutorials because you are very good at explaining things. Great job.

  • @THEORYZ1 hankyou very much for the compliment. I do this precisely because I feel there is a better and clearer way to explain many of the things that took me time to learn the hard way. Glad it helped you. If you have ideas for video tutorials please let me know. You can contact me at my yellowcase website or contact me via youtube. Thanks again.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing!

  • @spiritualgal07 Glad you liked.

  • you saved my life!! thank you so much! I had a deadline to meet on making my very first movie of the season of a highschool baseball team. had to make 10 copies and idvd kept messing up on me!

  • @bakerman4444 Thats awesome. So glad it helped you out. Thats the purpose of these videos and it's nice to hear when it helps people like yourself. I take quite a bit of free time to make them and I enjoying hearing about it when it has a positive effect. Thanks for the comment.

  • 1 Idiot Had To Dislike The Video...

  • Awesome Idea but try to copy some DVDs and get an error saying permission denied. Have a solution?

  • Dude why couldn't everyone other video on here have just said it like you did. Thanks plenty you really helped me out alot!!!

  • @Handsome85 Thanks man. Glad I could help.

  • hey man. im trying to copy a dvd utility and it wont burn. its saying burn in combo drive. what does that mean? cuz when i put my blank dvd-r in , it just ejects it??

  • @trapp2355 It could be a couple things. If you created an image disk from snow leopard for example (which is on a dual layer DVD) it would require a dual layer DVD to burn it. Some discs like snow leopard are almost 8.5 GB worth of data on a single disc. Though, that should give you a response similar to "not enough space in this media" or something like that. Also, the older your MAc (or PC for that matter) is, the dirtier your optical drive becomes and gives you errors.

  • @trapp2355 Were you trying to make a copy of a movie DVD or video game? If so,most of those are copy protected and cannot be duplicated in this way. I have a video posted here on how to do that using RipIt. If it ejects your DVD and CD when you insert, it can be because the media you inserted is not large enough for the disc image you made. Your combo drive is your Mac optical drive so no problems there. That is just how it is named. Make sure you have a large enough disc for your burn

  • @trapp2355 The Combo Drive can't burn DVDs, only reads them.

  • Thanks a lot man, great tutorial.

  • @ilcool90 Glad you liked. I appreciate the comments .

  • What if you want to save your backup directly to your hard drive (rather than burn to a disk) in order to use as a backup install at a later date? Does double-clicking the cdr file act the same way as inserting the original disk, or do you need to do something more...such as create a dmg file?

  • @jacobgotime You may have noticed in the video that I keep all my disk images (dmg) on an external drive. So you would be correct to assume that you can simply double click on them and use them as the DVD (some games don't let you do this). So yes, bouble clicking makes it act sort of like a CD, but it is much faster. When I set up my new computers I install all the software from DMG's and it takes a fraction of the time. Thanks for the comment.

  • Easier way to open disk utility..........spotlight icon top right of your imac screen, then type in "di". Thats as far as you need to go, itll predict it for you. Youre there. To copy a dvd to your pc, just put in your dvd/cd then click on it when it appears in the box on the left. Then select "new image" at the top of the page and away you go..yipee!!!!. Save it to desktop, my personal favourite. Then you can do what you want with it from there..(dvd/rw are bad news). Happy days.

  • @j20008l Yes. Please refer to video for instructions. The process for copying CD-R's and CD-RW is not a problem at all. The process is exactly the same and causes no issues. Spotlight allows for searching of almost all apps and files so that rule applies to anything and instructions in the video are intended to teach the location of Apps as well which is why we didn't use spotlight. Thank you for your questions.

  • @SlovakianEAGLE Glad it helped. Thanks for the post

  • how would i put it in my itunes

  • @Warlion82 How would you put what in your iTunes? This tutorial is about making copies of CD and DVD media. If you have the original disc of a music album you wouldnt need to copy it to add the songs to iTunes. You would simply import the songs into iTunes.

  • Excellent, I was having such a hard time trying to do this, no one knew exactly how to do it. Very easy to follow video, Thanks.

  • thanks so much... would this work for xbox disks ????

  • @mike398100 Nope. Unfortunately not. It will not work on DRM (protected) media such as Xbox, PS2,PS3 and blueray movies.

  • Thanks so much for posting this how-to video. Your video was right on, straight to the point and clear.

  • I get "input/output" error

  • Thank you sir! Well done and very easy to understand.

  • Fantastic - very clear and easy to follow.

  • nice :)
