  • I heard Ben Mankiewicz say it's Zeppo. But it's interesting they'd sneak this into the movie.

  • I did read that Groucho once said, "Zeppo plays me better than ME." LOL

  • I think it's Zeppo, the voice is not identical, if you pay attention you will hear that. By the way i'm sorry Zeppo didn't manage to do more with the others, i really appreciate his work (but still my fav is Chico ^^)

  • Is this the take used in the movie, or just another take they didn't use?

  • @bwc3821 The very one used in the movie.

  • I wish Zeppo could've developed his own on stage persona. His brother's always said he was the funniest one. It would've been great to see just how funny he was.

  • @bwc3821 Can I just say that I TOTALLY agree! I LOVE Zeppo. He's my favorite. He should have had more comedy along with his brothers. I read Groucho's bio and he was telling about how funny Zeppo was and the stunts he pulled. ha ha. It's awesome.

  • I don't think it's Zeppo. (Look closely!) I think it's Arthur Sheekman standing in for his friend Groucho. Sheekman was in New York in 1930 co-writing (with Groucho) sketches for the Broadway revue "Three's Company".

  • Sorry -- the name of the show was "Three's A Crowd".

  • Whenever I saw this scene I thought there was something a little different about Spaulding!

  • i must of seen this movie 100 times I don't belive i never noticed before. I'v got a picture of him on my wall for hevens sake!

  • Zeppo's Groucho voice is slightly more clipped than the genuine article. But it sure had me fooled.

  • Wow, this is irreplaceable. Thanks!

  • That's Zeppo. He's taller than Groucho, and it shows when he's talking to Mrs. Rittenhouse.

  • Its Zeppo alright, that's his hairline and his Groucho voice isn't as pointed as Groucho, listen to it very close, it's not Groucho it is Zeppo!

  • I think it might be Zeppo. Walks like him and Zeppo did stand in for Groucho when Groucho was sick once

  • yep whenever they were doing their shows live and Groucho was sick Zeppo went on for him. I heard somewhere that the director of this movie wanted Zeppo to be in one scene as Spaulding to show how good he was and picked this scene.

  • I dont know, when he leans over after he says "if there was someone over there he'd seem em wouldnt I?" it doesnt look like zeppo. which makes me think its a stand in. but like i said i dont know.

  • I had the same suspicion!!! I only noticed it when I viewed a DVD version of the movie, thanks to the enhanced pixels. Kudos, bansaraba! Cheers, A.L.
