@KiU2222222 Since when did kids have to pay to audition for a school? Its totally free. And yes, I live in New York. The students who go to LaG come from everywhere in NY; Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, etc. It takes me about an hour to get to school, but it depends where you live.

@KiU2222222 Hmm, I'm not sure how to help you on that one (I'm a different major and all). But on the LaG site, it says that they're not testing you on what you can do as a ballet dancer, just how well you'll do in the class. I'll suggest you to tryout ballet moves yourself before the audition so you'll be ahead of the game. You should find somebody who actually auditioned for dance @ LaG to help, since the process every year is pretty much the same.

@KiU2222222 the academics are great @ LaG, and if you get really good grades in english and history (95 and up, but aim in the 85-90's for everything else) you can go into honors classes which are really cool. try to aim for passing the regents too.

@KiU2222222 I had pretty mediocre grades in 7th grade, I think like a 80~89 average and I was really worried if I can qualify or not. But I tried really hard at the auditions and I was actually encouraged by looking at other student's work, no matter now snobby that sounds.

LaGuardia has five sections/groups/what ever you want to call them. Visual art, vocal/voice, acting, dance, and tech. LaG is also very strong and diverse academically, so no worries there. Gook luck auditioning!

well, ive been dancing for a few years now and i auditioned for laguardia last year for dance, but i didnt get a call back. im reauditioning this year, but im not sure i'll be getting in because i have big thighs and one of my friends told me that only girls who are really skinny get in. is this true? im not over weight, i just have thick thighs. lol thanks!

Believe me, I go to LaGuardia HS, and as long as you can dance, you'll get in. LaGuardia is a school known for talent, kid, not for looks.

PS Tell your friend that they have fat arms. Just to make yourself feel better.

@Netelulu13 I'm auditioning for vocal.....but the funny thing is that i can do ballet, (for about 8 years) and play the piano and violin. And sing. But my true talent is singing. Any advice on what to expect?

@Nylaine97 Audition for all of them for the best chances. If you get in for vocal and another talent, you're given a choice. You also mentioned having a 95+ average, so I'm also going to assume you're in the Top 2% category or somewhere along those lines. That will give you a major advantage. Last year 2585 people auditioned for vocal; only 152 got in. Sounds scary, but 152 is still a big number. As long as you're confident in yourself, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Nice to know. Here's a tip, even though our school took in a lot of kids this year (Some of them were literally talentless, it was horrible) because we needed the money from the DOE to support our school, we're tightening our belts next year. We're taking in less incoming freshmen, so try hard! We're also petty on academics. Since we look at your 7th grade report cards, try keep your grades top notch this year. Perhaps a 80 or higher at best.

PS By the time you're a freshman, I'm a senior :)
