  • EXCELLENT DOCUMENTARY!!!!!!

  • this is horrifying and made my stomach drop.

  • It's sad as she was exploited. End of story. I saw the film, and there is a part when she is truly upset, but her father keeps prodding her to do more, and she is clearly distressed. In reference to those who think abstract art looks like it is done by children are in fact observant, as the basis of abstract art is meant to re-explore those first moments in explorative play with shape and colour.

  • Ima a Interieur Decorator & also a painter. I like her werk. Got a talent @ early age. luky girl i guess. good luck & succes.....

  • There is group of nontalented people who need justification, from non talented people and call it art.PROJECT RUN WAY,NEXT TOP MODEL . NONTALENT HAS CORNER THE MARKET ON TALENT AND THE ARTS.Like Hip Hop

  • Dad looks so obviously like a shifty eyed liar. I don't think the mom realizes she married a loser though.

  • Here comes the cliche: What have they got to hide?

Just let them tape the kid painting...

Rather remarkable if those are authentic

  • what is remarkable? It's squiggles for pete's sake! I've had this debate over and over again. I've been to a few museums and have always had the same question...why is this so special? I love this movie. It rips the lid right off.

  • I agree with you Surreal i'm not to big into abstract art, mainly because any talentless asshole can throw paint on a canvas, however abstract art focuses on evoking an emotion without the use of recognizable objects.

what makes an abstract piece of art special is it is basically the human attempt at raw creation.

  • i'am an artist, and this child is amazing, no, everyone can do that, you just have to believe in yourself and just make your paintings look respected and valued

  • i am an artist as well maybe a whole lot better than you and i just think that this is a kid being a kid on canvas, you give any other kid a bucket of paint and this is what you'll get. it's just a kid being a kid. any kid can do this.

but I will admit that she does have an eye for balance. the three works shown abide by the principles of design.

GNR2124 i'm surprised you didn't say anything about the principles of design since you are an artist and what not

  • that movie was really good

    and intense

do you think the dad painted them?

    no one really knows.

  • I hate when someone viewing abstract art says, "I could have done that."....maybe, but that's the point. You didn't.

  • I so agree.

  • omg i saw that last night!! it was reeely good, except i dont remeber them ever saying if she was painting the pictures or not!?!??! did anybody see it and no??

  • i hafta get ready to go to a wedding, cya all later!

  • What an amazing movie.

  • those are just doodling wtf? fuckin tools...

  • the real art here is the scam artist who markets this.

every child does this, seriously... go to any preschool and look forself.

if good marketing made picasso famous then it can make anyone famous.

  • Genius of the art form of painting? I'm that and the genius of the athletic exercise of tennis. I'm actually the first renaissance genius. Welcome to my school.

  • People don't have "gifts"! Everyone can do what others do, maybe a little different, but I bet any 4 year old could paint the way she paints. It's not impossible. I think these so called "gifts" and "special abilities" are bullshit. None of us are "special" we're all the same, and it's these icons that are put on a pedestal that put the rest of us "ordinary people" down into the gutter while these "specials" get to walk the high street.

  • what? that's idiotic. Mozart and Rembrandt didn't have "special abilities"? "Everyont can do what others do"? hahhahahha. Also, her father painted those.

  • Well, whatever. You believe what you believe, but I know what I know.

And no, Mozart and Rembrandt didn't have "special abilities," they could just access a different part of their brains than the rest of humans. That's all. There's no such thing as "gifts," it's just different parts of our brain opened up to us.

  • how do I access that special part of my brain that the rest of humans can't access?

and no, "Marla" did not paint those painting.

  • How do I know? Am I famous for painting something someone else can't?

Look, it's scientifically proven that everyone's brains are the same and we only use 12.4% of them. And it's also proven that we can all do the same thing because our brains are all programmed the same way. Our souls are the things that give us our personality. If you can't accept what I'm saying, whatever, I don't actually care.

  • I don't know if I believe a living being that uses only 12% of its brain about anything. lol

Seriously though, our brains have gotten SMALLER as we have evolved, just like computers they become more intricate not larger. What else do you think we are not using? Our hidden telepathic powers?

  • That's actually a myth. Humans use every part of their brain at any given point---and, if you think about it, it makes sense. You never hear of someone getting shot in the head but surviving because the part that was damaged was the 88% they don't use.

  • Isn't accessing a different part of the brain a special ability if others can't do it?

  • I partially agree with Uzumaki. The great painters had the time and resources to develop slightly different abilities than the rest of humanity, from faculties that exist in everyone, they merely need to be exercised. Still, to render figures and depict visual reality takes a lot of observation, learning and education. Abstraction isn't easier! Most abstract painters started with classical realism, then moving to abstraction as they get older/mature, what have you.

  • ...Which is why adult abstraction looks different, it's partially honed by experience. The great masters were specialists within a society, not gods or magicians.

But these do look like the paintings of a little girl, maybe a "savant" as they say. But why put a child through all this unnecessary fame? Let the kid develop in peace. The whole thing seems a bit contrived and unreal.

  • I agree with you and Uzumaki 100%.

It all makes sense, that's for sure.

Dang, you both are smart (Noooot so much that fattyfactcats person thing.)

  • I don't understand why people think that Marla couldn't've painted these herself... I mean, come on! Everyone has talents, it just depends on your environment that it chooses to come out or not. Her parents recognized it, and are supportive enough, obviously.

    So stupid.

  • wow cool idea...looks good
